Since it is any minute now... here is what you do.

Park the car in the back yard and close and lock the fence, if you have one. This will stop them because if they break in, it is illegal!
OR
Park it at a friend's house (or in a garage attached to your house... keep the door closed)

Put a German Sheperd in the car at night. Lock the doors and leave the windows cracked. Make sure it isn't hot out first, or you could be in worse shape than you are now.

Put a German Shepard within reach of the car. If they can't hook your car up, they can't take it.

Take the wheels off at night, can't tow it if it won't roll.

Sleep in the car. It is illegal to tow a car with someone in it. (or claim that you live in it. they can't take your place of residence)

Good luck.

They can legally take your car after three consecutive non-payments. They'll probably come for the car within a week or two afterwards.

Allowing them to repossess won't absolve you of any future obligations. They will auction the car off and hold you liable for the difference between the selling price and the balance of the loan. So if the car is sold for $5000 and you owed $12,000, they will come after you for $7000 plus towing, storage and other fees incured during the repossession.

So the best thing to do is sell it yourself. Trade-it in for a cheaper car with payments you can manage. Sell it privately or have someone take over your payments. But you have to first catch up on the payments you missed. Ask for an extension if you have to, if they haven't already started the repossession process.

You usualy have 3 months of no payments. You will get bills/warnings and around the 4th month they will repo. Also, you will get repoed by a local tow service, not the dealership. I got a very suspect phone call saying if I did not do something soon they would come get the car (not the dealership mind you). My car got repoed that nite.

To answer your question when you walk outside and it's gone then that is what has happened. If you see your car is gone call 911 and ask them if it has been repoed. They usually call 1-2 hours after repoing it. I would not try to hide it either because they have very good ways of finding your car.

Once they tell you that your vehicle is going to be repossessed then turn the list over to a recovery agent who actually goes out to take possession of the vehicle. It depends on how quickly the recovery agent gets to your car as to when they take it. They usually move pretty fast in an attempt to recover their losses.

Assuming that you're a couple of months behind on your payments, it's any day now.
