I didn't get my textbooks til this wk and we're in the 3rd wk. I've missed 2 of the 3 classes in a 15 wk term and I can't help but sleep.. and I have night classes. $ is bothering me and I either read or sleep to forget about it. What should I do and should I try visiting my prof's in their office? How do I even talk to them about this bc it's unlike me and they hear these things all the time?

If you want to and need to stay in your classes, then you need to borrow or barter(trade for rides to class or type paper for them, etc) for a classmates notes, copy them and ask them about anything you don't understand. Read the text.Then match the notes to the text. If you still have questions, talk to the proff. Tell them about the $ problems and that you are trying to catch up and explain what you have done to catch up.They understand $ problems and students who work and go to school at night. Don't do any extra running around!! Work and school, sleep, eat, and study only until you are caught up and comfortable with your progress!You can do it if you try! I started college at 30,divorced,3 kids 8,4,2, and lived below the poverty line but we made it. We never went hungry and I had to drive a 60 mile round trip each dayto get to college and paid daycare for the 2 youngest.The kids had everything they needed and lots of what they wanted. You can make it on what you make IF YOU want to!!!I was not a good student in high school (just wanted to quit and be a mom)and made it great in college.I still did the mommy thing and was homeroom mom and carnival chairman for the whole school!I didn't know better and carried 18 hrs the first semester! But I did it!Best wishes and get all the gumption you need to do your best!

Hi there;
Boy that sounded like me in your question. I went through something similar when the college book store kept selling a much needed text book on me. I was feeling so far behind that I did exactly what you are doing. It's no fun at all trying to study and do well when you do not have the necessary materials to succeed, never mind the embarrassment that happens when you show up at class ill prepared.
What I did was I went directly to not only my professor but to the department head AND to the dean of students. I explained my situation and asked for help. Money was hard to come by and I needed that class! I sacrificed a lot to get my education and I was NOT going to be stopped by greedy/ill managed on campus bookstore clerks.
Speak UP!! Do not allow depression or avoidance to defeat you. You can get help with your course work and you can get help with your depression. Take action NOW. You deserve better and it's YOUR dollar (plus grade point average) that will be wasted. You can over come this and you will succeed. Just remember it's more exhausting to fail than it is to succeed. You are not a failure!!! There are two things in life that no one can take away from us. They are our birthdays and our education.
As for the professors, some will understand and help you to help yourself and some are a bit more indifferent but none are monsters. They know what you are going through and at least will acknowledge you are doing something about the situation. Believe it or not, colleges want you to succeed. You can get past this bad patch and move on to a successful collegiate career.
I wish you well. :)

u need to find someone to talk to. i can understand if u feel like the counselors at ur college aren't helpful, althrough they're the ones designated to really help u with this. maybe visiting an empathetic professor would be good. (some could be too arrogant to want to talk about something like this.) basically a little guidance would be good.
sounds like u need a little soul-searching...try and understand urself better.
here r a few questions to get u started before seeking professional/additional help.
-did u pick classes u don't like? or too hard? what is it about the classes that make u not want to study or miss them altogether?
-do u feel like it's just all a waste of time? re-focus...go over ur goals and how these classes fit within those plans.
-consider getting a study buddy (someone who is doing better than u of course)
-consider getting loans if u r short on money...maybe ask parents/relatives to spot u? don't neglect this. if u skip class, then u should use that time to be productive in other ways...such as organizing ur finances! if ur bills r all paid up & u have enough cash (for food/books/clothes), then don't worry about the loans u have amassed and just keep plugging away.
-consider seeing a psychiatrist. maybe u r developing clinical depression (not just being sad)? some symptoms of true depression r changes in sleep or eating habits, neglecting responsibilities, neglecting to take of urself (like not bathing or changing clothes), losing friends/job...there r more. basically ur depressed mood prevents u from reaching goals & doing simple things of a normal life.

You need to stop freaking out so much and beating yourself up. The first thing you need to do make sure you do is show up to your classes--whether you get the reading/homework done or not. If your professor sees you, he/she is more likely to be sympathetic, if you need to ask for help.

As far as $ goes, there isn't anything you can do in an instant to change it, so worrying about it constantly doesn't make the situation improve. Allow yourself to let go of it sometimes.

first complain about this to your teacher and ask them to change the class room if this does not solve your problem then change the school.
