I feel like talking to him about something that affects girls so much would strengthen his understanding of what I go through each month... But I don't want him to get grossed out or turned off. We've been together a year and we're in college, just to clarify. Thanks!

I'm sorry but i'm not understanding why it is necessary to explain the menstrual cycle to your boyfriend. Obviously, he is old enough to know what a period is. He doesn't need you to explain to him what it is. As far as him needing to sympathize with you on what you go through with your period, I feel that that is unneccesary. He is a big boy and he probably has already heard about the woes of the female period and he probably doesn't care. Why have an awkward moment? If you have to explain to him about your period then he is obviously kinda immature and will probably not appreciate the talk anyway.

I would not, it's not necessary. You could maybe mention something about having cramps (when you do,) and then say "I don't want to gross you out. I'm okay talking about it though, if this stuff is ever confusing for you then you can ask me anything." And leave it at that. Eventually when he has spent tons of time with you, he will start to understand that aspect of your life a little bit. You don't have to explain it to him if he's happy not knowing.

Ummm, huh? He doesn't know about periods? Do you know this for a fact or you just don't think he knows? Because that's kinda silly, and I seriously doubt he'll be grossed out. You should try doing it with him in the shower while you're on your period. It helps pull out all the blood and clots and stuff and can speed your period up by a day... or so I've been told.

Without it you would not be the wonderful woman you are today...you'd be a boy! So, yes you should tell him. A guy in college should already have at least basic understanding though. Any guy who is grossed out, has serious immaturity issues.

If he isn't aware of what happens, aside from teh bleeding you can tell him how it is normal to be moody and in pain during the period. If you want to graphically explain the blood coming and why it happens, and what it looks like , that is a bad idea! There is no reason for him to have to know everything unless he is going into medical school or something. If he is curious and wants to know you can tell him more, otherwise, why??????

I don't think any guy would be grossed out. But if you are in college, you can be pretty sure he has a reasonable idea already. I'm sure he doesn't need a big lecture on periods next time you are PMSing.

Well, if you don't feel comfortable telling him or him feeling awkward hearing from you, then it's better if you just give him some research you print off from the internet for him to read it on his own. Please keep it short and simple, so it's easy to understand. Once he read it, he will understand the whole thing. You won't even have to explain to him. So, when you're on your period, just tell him that it's that time again. He'll undersand what you mean by that.

If he is in college, he should already know about periods mostly. If he has not asked, then he probably doesnt want to know.

It is an important part of you and who you are. If he is grossed out by it, then it is his problem.
