Take a car ferry to Bridgeport, CT
http://www.bpjferry.com/ - $43.50 one way fare.

Take I-95 to I-91 in New Haven, CT
Take I-91 to I-90 in Springfield, MA
Take I-90 west to Albany, NY

Or take the Throgs Neck Bridge to I-95 to the Thruway to Albany.

Greyhound or the metrorail maybe a ride you pay tolls and help with gas or try messenger contract services they pay you fare to deliver important documents have to be bonded but it is cheaper than cheap and you travel first class.
