A Land Rover or a Toyota Land Cruiser are probably the only two vehicles I'd even consider. And bring LOTS of spare parts, especially suspension pieces, axles, CV joints, and a couple of oil pans. And know how to install them and have the tools to do so.

land rover is good, Toyota cruiser or Nissan armada Nissan works well in the amazon and in the Andes ; is the vehicle of choice for all terrain purposes in Peru and Costa Rica, you will also see Nissan and Toyota trucks in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia the reason is that those trucks will take longer to overheat than Chevy or ford trucks.
if you have the chance it would be a good idea to add an inter cooler to the truck of your choice to keep the transmission cool, also change to synthetic fluids of course take plenty of mechanical supplies with you, fluids and spare parts.
land rover would be your first choice
the other two are equally dependable is just a matter of witch one you can afford.

good luck

I would think an older model, without fancy electronics that local mechanics can't repair underway. An old, low milage Land ROver would be good.
