i have just got a vs calais and want to keep the factory sound system as it has a factory 10 cd stacker in the boot plus variable antena height control plus on the steering wheel it has volume control & many mory features that i will lose if i change the head deck BUT it has no pre outs on the back of the unit wich means no sub preout. The only thing i can run is a 4 channel amp for the inside of the car any one got an idea how to get around this ? i have already got a good amp and subs from my last car and the shops want to charge me $300 bucks for a high output to low input converter any ideas please?

what you need is a line out converter. hook it up to the head unit signal going to the rear speakers. your going to need a 12v source for the remote turn on.

crutchfield has one for 30 bucks good luck.

If you can fit an equalizer somewhere in the dash or glove box then u are in luck. Use only one line input inverter or hi/low from your deck's front channels into the EQ input. The EQ would typically have front, rear and sub RCA pre outs on it that can connect to all your amps.

If you do not want an EQ, then consider an electronic crossover (active crossover) that has 3 pairs of RCA outputs ( a 3 way crossover). There are some crossovers with bass control knobs also!.

see if this company would be of an interest to u :

They also make the OEM intgration modules which cost at least $200. But you get the idea ;-)

There is no sense in buying an EQ nor will an electronic crossover work either!!! Some people!

A "high output to low input converter" or a line level converter can be had for much cheaper than $300. They connect directly to the speaker out of the head unit (or from the speakers themselves, less of a run from the back where the speaker are).

They range from $12 to $18 on-line.

Get the convertor. No way around that that I'm aware of... Unless you can find a head that will interface with the wheel controls for less. Not sure about costs, but they are out there.
