First off, it will NOT set off your airbags! Merely disconnecting and reconnecting the battery has never done that on any car.

Disconnecting the battery WILL reset the computer system(s) in the car. Any presets in the audio system will likely be lost as well. This is normal and unavoidable. When the computer is reset, you may notice some slight changes in performance or economy for the first few days while the computer "relearns" it's programming. This is also normal, though most of the time you won't notice anything other than the loss of the audio system's presets.

Millions of batteries are replaced every day around the world. It's a non-issue.

Some newer cars with theft deterant systems do not like having the battery disconnected. I've heard that some newer sound systems will not work if you don't have a "reset" code. The best way to save yourself any problems is to use a 9-volt transistor radio battery as a low voltage backup for the battery. It will "keep alive" your computer settings and radio presets as well as the theft deterant system. Be sure it is connected to the positive cable and ground before disconnectiing the main battery.

Agree with all the others so far. No problems with changing battery, but some car parts stores also sell a "keep alive" device that accepts a 9 volt on one end and plugs into lighter socket or power point in car.

No problems changing the battery but to avoid resetting everything put a 9volt battery across the leads while the battery is out.

playing with the battery terminals won't set off the airbags.
you do want to minimize the amount of connecting and disconnecting as so you won't be creating voltage spikes.
