No. But I have heard that a lot with sheppards. I would give it formula with premium dry food.

Some bitches start weaning early. I have some girls that will feed pups forever if left with them. I start the weaning process at 4 weeks with a slurry of goats milk and canned food. But, I still let the pups nurse until almost 6 weeks. I keep pups here until 8 weeks, as they need their littermates for the extra socialization. I also keep them so that they can have 2 vaccines before going to a new home. Give this pup very mushed up food right now. You can blend large breed puppy food, dry in a blender until it is a powder. Then add some canned food and water to this and blend it up. The pup will not be able to get all it needs if it has to try to munch down dry food at this age. As the pup gets a few more weeks on it, you can gradually make the food less runny as you gradually wean him onto just puppy food soaked in water.

Every breed starts weaning as soon as pups start teething which is at 3-4 wks but not completely.Pups still need nutrition only the mother can provide they just don't let them nurse as much and for as long cos it's getting painful for her.
Did you bring the pup home at 4 wks? That's way too young for it to be away from it's mother.Take it back immediately cos the mothers owner is an idiot who should'nt own a dog!
At 4 weeks the mother starts their formal education. The longer she stays with the pups the healthier they'll be mentally and physically.
You should NEVER take a pup from it's mother before she's completely weaned it which is 6-7 wks of age.And NEVER take a pup unless it's at least 8wks.old.

No they are supposed to nurse them untill 6 weeks and they you start them on puppy food but if she isn't feeding them I would make sure you go and get some puppy formula at the pet store and feed them they have to eat every few hours. Depending on how may she has had she may just be tired. Make sure that the mom is eating puppy food ( that is best for a nursing mother) and that she has pleanty of water.

ALL pups do best when weaned at 8 weeks, not six, not four. I'm glad your's is doing good. But it is not recommended by top breeders.

Go to a vet and get a formula supplement for the puppy, and feed it by bottle for atleast 2 more weeks.
