It's not "sitting on the fence."

Do I know whether or not aliens exist? No...but a lack of evidence does not constitute as proof. I simply do not know. Now if I wanted to believe in aliens that still wouldn't reflect the truth because my own personal desires are getting in the way. As an agnostic, I won't believe in something without knowing. If you think that's ignorance then so be it. At least I don't believe in something without proof...otherwise that would be quite self-gratifying.

How does a lack of evidence prove that a higher conscious does not exist? How does faith prove God exist? No answers.

October...freewill does not exist so Hell can't either. Am I being self-gratifying for not believing in something that isn't real? Unless of course there was a Hell where people were randomly chosen to go.

Don't generalize.

I'm atheist with respect to Zeus, Thor, Odin, ... and the God of the Hewbrew Bible. I think all of these gods are mythical creations of ancient civilizations.

But I'm agnostic with respect to whether the universe was willfully created by a supernatural being. I'm agnostic because I don't know, and I suspect its not knowable.

There is nothing wrong with sitting on the fence...

I don't base my atheism on a lack of proof but rather an understanding of how god was created by man

Because they are trying to get the spot light off of them selves. We agnostics know that there is no way of possible knowing such a thing and they know it too. It's just pride, they don't want to be wrong, so they use passive aggressive remarks to hide the fact that they can not know this either.

Humbug! You guy don't want to go to hell, but you don't want to go to church either. What is more self- gratifying than that?
The thing is this: knowing what you know about science, biology evolution and astronomy, and not having any knowledge of religion, would it even occur to you that there might be a God?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think you actually make more sense. You are not so arrogant as to say there's absolutely no possibility of God existing. Just as I cannot prove God exists, atheists cannot prove that he doesn't.

What does "sitting on the fence" mean, except that you do not know and are leaving all options open. Agnostics are sitting on fence. It's not an insult.

Well, it generally stems from the idea that agnostics don't make decisions about things like that, and so are undecided, hence sitting on the fence.

I don't think you're sitting on the fence. There is absolutely no one who knows for sure.

It is clear that the Universe and reality is far beyond human understanding, there is no way to tell either way.
