Yes, 'aight' is a slang word for all right. We are very fond of shortening words which are already short and making them our own. Just as 'alright' is now accepted use for the term 'all right'.
I do not think you are ignorant. There is nothing wrong with asking, because that is the only way to learn. It is better to ask, then to lose one's way, don't you think? :)
