it isn't only Rappers that say it, but I hear it alot in the South,too. i don't want to sound ignorant, but I am curious.

Yes, 'aight' is a slang word for all right. We are very fond of shortening words which are already short and making them our own. Just as 'alright' is now accepted use for the term 'all right'.
I do not think you are ignorant. There is nothing wrong with asking, because that is the only way to learn. It is better to ask, then to lose one's way, don't you think? :)

Yes, it is a "slang" term for alright, and it did generate in the south.

Its ghetto for "I'm too lazy to pronounce the word". I live in the south and I never hear anyone but black people and wiggers say it.
