Regardless of Jesus proposed return, there probably will not be a full scale exchange of Nuclear weapons. I think we will see a limited exchange someday. Probably soon. See link:

maybe if a large scale nuclear war breaks out, killing everyone, we will once again embark on an evolutionary process... evolving much differently from all of the nuclear fallout.
We'll probably all have messed up faces all melted looking, even after thousands of years.
Maybe we'll descend from cockroaches.
