I have no idea why someone might hate something that isn't a something (or anything) at all... why someone would hate that which isn't. It makes no sense at all.
However, to oppose the influence of the mythology is totally understandable. To oppose the confusion, the enmity, the conflict, the ignorance, the cruelty, the hatred and the killing that such a mythology has inspired on countless occasions is something I can completely comprehend.
Being without belief in a fairy tale doesn't necessarily mean that ones life will be free from the effects of said fairy tale. Just because the imaginary protagonist within the fairy tale could not possibly be the cause of anything does not warrent dismissing the fairy tale itself as harmless. Don't for a second assume that the impact of a lie couldn't possibly be significant, far reaching and disasterous.
That's why people concern themselves with the fairy tale even when they don't buy into it. Mythical characters may be just that, but the unfortunate and sometimes deadly actions that result from worshipping said characters are very real and very relevant to the existing world in which we live.

Hello. I'm an atheist, and I don't hate God, since I don't believe in him. But that doesn't mean I can't hate the myth. As for why I shouldn't let the people who believe in that fairytale be, I'd be more than happy to if they left everyone else alone too. But hundreds of millions of people have been murdered in God's name. I hate the social climate created by religious fundamentalism and the contempt for sound scientific theories because they're inconsistent with a myth. It isn't like a child believing in Santa, or the Tooth Fairy. People are dying.

I only hate what is happening to the United States because of religion. Many Christians here who are so used to relying on faith have lost their critical thinking skills. George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Karl Rove have come along and very skillfully manipulated Christians into thinking that they are good "God fearing" people. But in reality, they are just manipulating fear.
If Christians would use their heads and realize that they've been used, that the Iraq war was the wrong response to Al Quaida, that separation of Church and State is an important Constitutional *protection*, then I would be happy.
Yes, I believe the God of the Hebrew Bible is myth, like I believe all gods are myths. I don't hate these mythical characters. I don't even hate people who believe in these myths. I only hate the loss of freedom and the waste of lives and money that is happening because Christians are afraid and not thinking clearly.

People who don't believe in god don't hate god. Some of them hate religion though, or things that are done in the name of religion.

I don't hate "God". I just think the world would be a better place without God and religion. People kill in his name and for religion. Why can't we just live with practicing common decency without a thousand year old book of guidelines?

There are forces behind the emotions people have that causes this hate. Its not all about flesh and blood. The ironic thing is those people don't even know it.

The athiest, whom I'm guessing you're talking about, bash and hate the God not directly. But the fact that people believe in something they see as false. But why bother discussing them?
They're just like hardcore Christians, idiots who think they're right and try to spread their faith.

Assuming you have one, were you ever able to be mad at your little sister's imaginary friend? Kinda hard to do (not to mention weird)...same difference.
Some people don't like to let them be because us non believers have not been left alone ourselves forever and, well, humans can sometimes have a taste for retaliation.

I don't hate God. I hate the idea of god.
Look at it this way.
You believe in Babbabua. I don't believe in Babbabua. So I enjoy making fun of babbabua. To you, because you believe, I'm making fun of Babbabua. But to me, I'm having some fun at the expense of the belief in Babbabua, not Babbabua itself.
Simple.
