Watch cycling videos and races on TV while you ride.

I've tried all the previous responses, but by far the most motivating is to watch bike racing on TV. But don't just watch the highlights, get yourself copies of the entire race (or as much of it as possible). My favorites are the 4-5 hour telecasts of the mountain stages of the Tour that OLN broadcasted.

To make things even more interesting, you can try to match pace with the riders: when they are climbing up hill, increase the resistance and try to keep the same cadence as the riders. Also, if you've got a power meter, you can try to match their power output (though you may not last for very long).

Finally, if you know other people that are interested in indoor riding, you can always them over for a group workout. The best part of a group trainer workout is that even if everyone is at a different fitness level, you'll look like you're working your asses off, and nobody gets dropped!

Oh god... I try my hardest to avoid my trainer because of that very reason! Hours fly by on the road, but put me inside and I'm checking the clock every 30 seconds!

Reading pasts the time best for me. I usually pick magazines because it's easier to fold and read. Also, try a dvd with spintervals or something. These also work for me, but I mostly turn the volume down on the tv and play my own motivational music with it.

At home, turn on the TV and try to pretend you're in the outdoors. At the gym, try an MP3 player; I find very aggressive and fast-paced music works best. (I prefer industrial bands.)

One thing that helps me sometimes get through a workout and stay focused is to "psych" myself up and become angry, even though I'm not angry about anything in life. I'm not suggesting being rude or unpleasant towards others, but take it out on the equipment - not by destroying it, by using it.

Yeah, hard to do. I try to avoid the indoor training if I can.

I guess tv works...a good movie.

I'm thinking about buying one of those setups that hook to the computer and gives you the visuals of riding around...but that will probably be just as boring.

TV for easy spins. For more focused workouts, Spinervals and Carmichael Training Systems Trainright DVDs. Get a few, otherwise they get stale quick. Time flies by when you are going these.

Personally, I've installed a flat-screen TV/DVD monitor in my spinning room. I alternate between watching movies and playing Spinervals DVDs.

I use a video called places you bicycled. Actually its a guy on a bike with a camera filming the road. It works great with a turbo fan blowing air at me like a head wind.

Watch TV, listen to favorite music, listen to books on CD.

But nothing beats going out for a real bike ride . . . see people, see places, ride through the woods/forest preserves, ride through the trails, ride and sit by the creek/lake . . .

Pretend i'm riding a 200km bike race, and i'm attacking and counter-attacking armstrong, landis, mayo, ullrich, basso, valverde, evans, liepheimer. etc. Or i pretend im racing mcewen, petacchi, boonen, hushovd in sprints.
