Hi there amn,
This is the shy person's universal dilemma. You can't make yourself known if you don't speak up, but if you're by nature shy of course you never would speak up! I am in your same situation, and I know all of the things I should do but that I can't bring myself to do, that is, try very hard to get over whatever insecurity is holding you back and just take a leap and talk to the person you are interested. I know it is much easier said than done. You'd be surprised at how horrible I am at talking to guys; it goes virtually nowhere. I think it takes a special kind of person to sort of nudge along the shy person so that she opens up, so it could be that you just haven't encountered the right person yet. My sister says you need to 'lightly flirt,' but even that I think would be forward of me and so I expect the boy would make the first move, but it never happens. When it's a shy guy you're interested in, the situation may end up going nowhere because neither person is willing to share his feelings with the other person. As for guys being intimidating by attractiveness, shy girls are equally as intimidated by attractive guys, so how are we supposed to get anywhere! Just realize that you may pass up a lot of potentially great people if you never take the risk. We shy girls fear rejection I suppose, but really we've never experienced it so we have no idea what it feels like. What I just don't understand is, why can't the guy be the one to initiate things? It would make life a lot easier for us shy girls.

find a common topic and work off of that...if your comfortable about what you are talking about you will feel comfortable. the more you know her the better it will be, but to tell you the truth if you don't feel that comfort soon its not a long term thing, you have to feel that you can be friends and you will know that right away. but hey you sound like an attractive guy course its hard to find guys taller than me (6') good luck to ya though!

Guys might find your beauty to be intimidating, and that's why they won't approach you. They fear rejection. You have to find confidence in yourself to be more outgoing. You should just introduce yourself and start a normal conversation. That works so much better than some cheesy line.

complimenting someone is a good way to break the ice.

why? probably the same reason as you... they are shy.. i think being alone, being open, look inviting, look available are really key factors.
