Have a computer in his/her bedroom?
It just seems to be getting more & more dangerous for kids online.

Nope...I'm the parent and my rules apply. Don't like it, too bad then no computer use at all. Except for homework.

I agree somewhat with Xiannah. It is a bad idea for a child to have a computer in the bedroom because s/he can unknowingly go somewhere that isn't appropriate, and s/he may not always know it's inappropriate. But with today's working world, it is important that there is a computer available for the child to learn to work on. And if the computer is not in his/her room, you can monitor the amount of time spent on the computer. Kids spend too much time. Some games are ok once in a while to learn how to use the computer or for learning games, but other than homework reasons and wanting/needing to look up something interesting, the computer should be left alone.

NO. Not even if they made the money to buy their own computer. Our computer is in the living room and that is going to be the only one hooked to the internet, and when my son is old enough he will only be allowed on it to do research for school or play a few games. My husband left the password on our computer when we had dial-up so his son could do homework while we were gone for the day and when we got home I was looking for something on my history bar and saw a strange website at the top and clicked on it and it was a porn site. Right then and there I went into the Bios system and put a password on the computer so windows would not even load. If a child has a computer in their room it is too hard for the parents to control what is going on. Even if a parent completely trusts their kid, that doesn't mean that they won't go into sites they don't belong on or they won't make bad choices. The 16-17 year old girl on the news a couple of months ago was a honors student and met a guy on MY Space and flew to Jordan!! Her parents said that she had never been in trouble before!

Whether I would let them would probably depend on their age.
And it would be "when I bought them a computer" that they could have it; otherwise "the computer" would be in a common area in the house!

It just SEEMS to be getting more and more dangerous.
It's less dangerous than real life, because there is a physical separation between them and the people they encounter.

If I were one of those psychos, then I might say, "If you asked such a stupid question in real life then I would hack you into little bits then and there!" Alas, armed with only a keyboard, I cannot hack.

Technology is becoming more and more accessible. Soon we will be able to get online via our phones (some do already). Our children will be able to access the internet eventually at the bus stop, local coffee shop, mcdonalds, anywhere. We just need to instill values and continue to educate and enlighten our youngsters about what lurks out there (in the online world). There is no way to protect our kids without informing them (unfortunately). Having the computer in the kitchen or living room will not keep them exposed from the predators next door. Sorry, so dark - but we need to arm our kids and protect them (instead of trying to isolate them). JMO! (Just My Opinion !)

if u have taught your kids well, then you should test it. when they go on a computer and are about to look up bad stuff, a little alarm should go off telling them not too. that's if the kids have been raised correctly. if ur not sure, don't put a computer in their rooms! kids tend to get tempted and it's dangerous. you could also buy software that blocks bad stuff on the internet from your child. my parents did that too me, and i don't really complain, because it's for my safety. take my advice, cuz it's from somebody who's been there

I do not and will not allow my kids to have a computer in their room. In fact we all share the same computer even tho I have another one just sitting there... I do monitor what sites the go to and all that stuff. And I feel that a private PC behind closed doors is just asking for trouble.

NO.....my husband and I agreed that the computer will stay in the family room and they are not allowed on it without our permission and one of us has to be in the room. There's too much bad stuff going on. The longer I can protect my kids the better and being online is something that I can control.

Nope! No computer, no tv and no cell phone. Kids do not need these things. We will have a computer in the living room where we can watch what they are doing. I will not allow them to have a TV in their room. And they will not be able to have a cell phone. I will know where they are at all times.

Kids are way to spoiled these days!!!

No. Not only do I want to monitor what my child looks at, I also don't want her spending all of her time on the computer. When it's in the living room I can make sure that she's not on it all night. The only thing that I'm going to allow in her room, electronic wise, is a stereo.
