Because women need their tampons every 28 days, and not much is going to change that. It would be like saying advertisements for toilet paper are inappropriate... everybody poops why should we hide it? That being said, i thought that the pink dancing panty liner ad was a bit over the top.
Oh, and there definitely should be ads for condoms. Lots of ads for condoms.

Geez! I can't believe someone actually asked the question! Americans sure are puritans! I mean, you're targetting feminine products. If people were a little more laid back and open minded, it wouldn't be a problem. And showing those products helps younger girls understand what "periods" are (in the past, some girls thought they were going to die because they had no idea where the bleeding came from) and help young boys see the difference between men and women.
What's more, as I said before, you're talking about female products. But I saw things that were even worse: cream for herpes, etc.
No wonder feminists are so extreme in America!

These products are designed for a need most/all women will have during their lifetime, and while the television advertising may be uncomfortable, it's definitely not inappropriate, any more than it would be inappropriate to have advertisements for cold medicine, Band-Aids, or any other over-the-counter medical product. Although this is a problem that involves a very personal area, it doesn't have anything to do with activities that should be known only to adults. Personally, I don't see much reason for it - I'm not going to make my choices based on television advertising for a product, and I definitely know that these products exist, as do most women. But apparently they see some benefit in terms of sales, or they wouldn't pay for this advertising space.

Tampons and femanine napkins are just products like any other product that requires marketing to sell. Half of the world's population uses them, so what's the big deal. What makes me furious is the price that we women are charged for a product that is a necessity. The bigger the need the more expensive the price. We humans are such a mess...In my next lifetime I think I'll be a beautiful lion. Ha Ha

There is nothing inappropriate about showing advertisements for menstrual products on television, most women do menstruate and as such most use some sort of menstrual option. In the case of commercial tampons and commercial pads they are luxury items and as such they need to advertise them in order to sell them, the unfortunate thing is they are inappropriate in that they make a point to brainwash women into thinking not only that they need to use such whiter than white or fragranced options but also into thinking their periods are dirty and otherwise negative in order to keep their customer base strong.
There is nothing offensive or otherwise negative about menstruation, it is a normal function of a woman's body and without it none of us would be here today, those who are of the belief that menstruation is negative are those who either have a problem with women in general, or have been brainwashed into the outdated idea that menstruation is 'gross'.
It is however advertisements for commercial menstrual products that breed the attitude that menstruation is something negative – such as the attitude that it is inappropriate to advertise menstrual products on television, people would not have this sort of attitude if such products did not use negative body attitudes towards women on their advertisements.

Let's make a deal. If the advertisers will ditch the commercials for viagra and erectile disfunction, we'll give up the ads for feminine products.
Frankly, I didn't want the last man I was with in my bed. The last thing I wanted him to try was viagra.

The main problem I have with such commercials is that I mainly only watch tv when I'm eating. I think that the blue water demonstrations are a little overbord while I'm eating. But I dont mind them so much if I'm not eating. Same wiht ED vagasil, goldbond, depends, etc.

Why would it be inappropriate? Tampons are not a harmful substance like tobacco or alcohol. If you are uncomfortable with seeing a tampon commercial it reveals that you are uncomfortable with the concept of the menstrual cycle, and I think that's a shame.

omg...get over it people. its appropriate because its advertising a legal product that people use every day. i dont particularly like it when they advertise for mens "sexual enhancement" drugs, but its a 30 second commercial! if it bothers you, go get a drink while its on or turn to a different channel.

Last I checked, tampons and sanitary pads are legal. And very useful. If they can advertise Viagra and Cialis, why not feminine products?
