When that first happened to me years ago, I went to see my buddies who owned a pharmacy to see which medicine would be the best. I told them what was wrong and they immediately asked what type of pillow I slept on. When I told them a foam rubber pillow, they smiled and knodded that they knew exactly what the problem was, and told me about a different pillow that dipped in the middle and said that foam rubber pillows caused stiff necks and subsequent headaches. So, I bought one of these different pillows, and my headache went away the very next night. Of course, I had to take some medicine for my headache that day, but the next day I had no such problem, and I've used that same pillow, or even new versions of the same thing as I moved or lost the pillow or somesuch. That may not be your problem, but it's worth looking into maybe. God Bless you.

Stress followed by sleeping in a different position, or a different pillow. Try some over the counter muscle relaxing cream after a hot soaking bath. There is Truth into the fact that a hot bath, and a rub down with alcohol helps. I would also take some ibuprofen, it helps with aches, and swelling of muscles & joints. If you are experiencing fever and really sever headaches, you might want to go to a doctor, it could be onset of menegitis., and thats dangerous. Don't let it go unattended. Good Luck!

Your headache does come from the pain in your neck, for once the pain is gone in your neck your headaches will go as well. Here is how you can release those muscles: For your neck: place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath and exhale. After 30 seconds you should be feeling the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp, then lean your head forward as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds.

Meningitis. Lay flat on your back and have someone lift one of your legs straight up, knee slightly bent. If you neck or back hurts more than normal, time to see a doctor.
My bet would be, if it IS meningitis that it is viral, which can be much less severe than bacterial meningitis, and if it were bacterial, you would not be capable of looking at a computer or typing on a keyboard, most likely, it would be too painful.

Stress, if you don't have a fever and that headache could be a migraine, brought on by stress.
Otherwise, if you have a fever it could be meningitis.

stress and possibly not drinking enough water. Bad A/C filter in your home? that might only account for the headache though.
