They say it's to combat the damage of chemical treatments, coloring, heat styling and environmental pollution (by conditioning your hair on a regular basis).

There are hair conditioners for every hair problem so read the labels when you buy them. The main reason to buy them is so your hair will be manageable. Some guys with short hair prefer to use a 2 in 1 (shampoo with conditioner) to save time and money. You can get conditioners to add volume to limp hair, light conditioners for oily hair, restorative conditioners for dry, damaged hair. Actually, there are too many types - it's hard to decide what category you fit into sometimes.

The active ingredients in these conditioners are proteins. They also contain compounds which help to control fly-away hair, a common problem in dry, cold climates and air-conditioned rooms. Besides the oils in the conditioners help to replenish those which have been stripped from the hair in the cleaning process.

They reduce the trauma of combing hair when wet and squeaky clean.

They contain ingredients which help to temporarily mend damaged hair by binding ruffled hair and split ends.

The soap in shampoo strips ALL oils and dirt from your hair unless there is oil in it (a shampoo/conditioner), and a conditioner replaces some of the lost oils and usually has vitamins that are good for hair to make it all shiny.

It straightens hair that is curly, or lightens hair that is dark, depending on the CONDITION of your hair. Now do you see why it's called conditioner? Because it can only be used when the air CONDITIONER is on.
I hope this answers your question.

Soap is alkaline while conditioner and vineager are acid.

If you give your hair an acid rinse it will put the correct PH back into your hair and scalp.

Takes out the tangles when I wash my hair so that I can comb through it w/o yanking on my hair and breaking it off. It also makes it softer and shinier.
