Because the former is nothing without the latter. Simplistic, I know - but perhaps there is something to it?

Pardon me - I write this question as a Canadian. (There was a shooting at a college in Montreal today.)

There are not nearly as many guns here as there - and so when these horrible things happen we are still shocked.

I really don't know anything about guns and have never even seen one.

I don't even know what bullets would cost. But if you taxed them 100%, the resulting revenue could be used in the hospitals that have to patch up the victims of violence. Or put toward police salaries. Or survivor trust funds.

Look, I SAID I knew it was simplistic, but isn't the simplest answer sometimes the best one?

You know...if only there would be some successful way of tracking firearms...but there really isn't. I can't say that guns are bad, because people I know have been saved by them. There are people that are killed by them and those who misuse them...but I don't think the weapon is bad altogether. One of the biggest problems is gun saftey. People just don't know how to properly use them, or how to teach children about them.

Before you start thinking about kids with guns, realize this: If only they know the true extent of the danger envolved with the firearms, they won't think of them as toys.

Another thing is the black market. You can't stop it. It is everywhere. If someone wants something bad enough, they'll get their hands on it by any means possible. So strict laws on the limitations on guns OR bullets really won't make that much of a difference.

The only real thing I can think of is educating people on gun safety. It seems like the message won't get through, but you'd be suprised at how many people would be willing to listen.

Of all the gun control ideas floating around, restricting bullets is one of the dumbest. For one thing it would unfairly punish recreational shooters. It's not uncommon for me to go though several hundreds rounds every time I go to the range. Why should I be heavily taxed on this? I'm not hurting anything but paper targets. People justify this by saying that target shooting is not a legitimate hobby or such nonsense but what right do they have to make that determination?

Also it wouldn't make guns any less deadly because you only need one bullet to kill, and no bullets to rob or rape.

How about controlling criminals. Criminals will always have guns regardless. How about controlling Dope. Make it legal. That would probably cut the crime rate at least by one half. Take the lure of easy money away from the Dealers. Sell at a reasonable price . Give the money to charity. Help the poor. Give them job training. Get them off welfare. The users will take care of themselves by dying. Why not treat the cause rather than the symptoms.

It would be virtually impossible to track bullets for several reasons. One is that people can make bullets from new or even reused parts. And two if a bullet was used in a crime chances are the bullet would be mangled and unusable to trace(assuming you mean to trace bullets by using serial numbers) and if the bullet was frangible it would be in a thousand tiny shards. What needs to happen instead of restricting guns & ammo is to make people pass competacy tests to be able to buy EACH firearm they posses. And make harsher punishments for gun violaters. The solution to gun violence is education not abomination.

How about a little self-control? What doesn't make sense is the premise of your question! People kill people, not simply guns, or bullets, or the devil. People chose to kill. You can take away guns, bullets, knives, etc., but if someone chooses to kill you, they will find a way to do it.

Morality, ethics, respect, responsibility, and self control is what keeps people safe. You see it all comes back full circle now doesn't it? How about having the stomach as a nation to take an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth?

Guns don't kill people. And bullets don't kill people. PEOPLE kill people. What must be done is making people follow the laws.

No matter what restrictions you put on guns, bullets or the ways to get the guns, criminals will get them if they want them. Why? Because they don't follow the laws in the first place. They will find them sold somewhere illegally. Money is a great motivator, and if the person wanting the gun has enough of it, then they will get a gun.

In order to keep people dying from gun wounds, we need to find a way to keep criminals from getting the guns.

No. So how are you going to control knives, ropes, plastic bags, cars, shoe laces, belts, rocks, hammers, screwdrivers, books, flashlights, rags, poisons, tv's? When a person has murder on their hearts their choice of weapon has nothing to do with it. Instead of blaming a tool, blame the murderer. He is the one that made the choice to kill. I have a pistol sitting beside me and it's not going off by itself, it doesn't load itself, it can't aim itself, and can't load itself.

If someone would have had been carrying they might have been able to stop the guy from hurting someone.

Neither idea makes any sense...

If an individual wants another individual dead... said person will find a way to do it... with a car, baseball bat, fist, alarm clock... whatever one can get their hands on...

Makes you wonder if that person who did the shooting up there would have gone through with it had he knew his potential victim would be shooting back....

In case you did not know this, lol, it's very easy to make your own cartridges, even shot gun shells lol. And what's wrong with owning a gun anyways? Gun control is one thing...but banning them? Never going to happen in this country.

You can commit crimes with a knife, an axe, pepper spray or mace, a baseball bat and on and on. You can use anything to murder someone. So what's the point?

Certain types of automatic weapons have been banned for years in this country. Has not stopped any gang member or criminal from buying them and using them. Same thing for certain types of "cop killing" bullets. The police confiscate them all the time. It's pointless.
