it's hard to say, but i'll go with Calvin Brock. He's unbeaten and he can punch. Even though he didn't look all that impressive in his last fight, but he fought a guy that was just trying to survive and fight defensively. Anyone could look bad against a fighter like that. I think we'll see a much better performance from Brock when he fights Klitscho in November. I pick Brock by ko by rd 8.

Over what time period? Historically, most boxing experts I respect rank Muhammed Ali and Joe Louis #1 and #2. I'll listen to a case where Louis is ranked over Ali (but I won't agree with it) but its sure hard for me to buy an argument that there's any other heavyweight in the argument for "best ever" than these two guys. Im my estimation, at least, its Ali, Louis and then everyone else...

If you're talking the "next best heavyweight" at the moment its sort of a trick question since there's not even uninimity on who the *best* heavyweight is--and by definition you need a "best" before you can get a "next best". Off the top of my head I'd say that Wladimir Klitchiko is the best of an uninspiring bunch and you can take your pick among the other championship claimants for "next best". I'd probably go with Maskaev, despite being a blown up cruiserweight--he may not have the physical stature of the other two "alphabet soup" world champions but he's got more skills IMO...

i'd have to say calvin brock. he has good skills and has taken a great path, fighting alot and with a few tough, veteran-like fighters. thats adds up to good experience, and will certainly help him as he now gets into his career-defining bouts. sam peter is a sad case. he has all the potential of being a great heavyweight, but his training ethic, stubborness, and inability to receive instruction well, has been a burden so far. lets hope he gets with a good trainer soon that is able to light a fire under him and help him become the polished fighter we all want to see clean up the heavyweight division.
