The driver is "USB Root Hub" and it causes windows to freeze upon being loaded. Also I must mention that I don't have my original XP cd anymore, but I do have the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticy and the Product Key.

I tried safe mode but the driver loads up, regardless and does so too quick for me to get into the control panel. I'm posting this from my laptop which runs an OEM XP Home Edition, could I somehow use it to make a windows recovery cd for the desktop?

possible repair options,

note:F keys are the buttons with f1, f2, f3 ... at the top of your keyboard

1. When turning on computer press F1, "the key may vary from computer to computer " so try all 12 F keys, eventually one of them will prompt you with the option to repair Windows, you should click this and repair.

2. Another F key (not sure which ) should give you the option to start up in safe mode, click this, and windows should load on minimal settings then you this driver will not be loaded and thus you can remove it by

delete it from device manager
click start , then place mouse over "my computer" icon ( DO NOT left CLICK) RIGHT!!! click it and select properties

select Hardware tab
click device manager

from here look for the device with a yellow exclamation point and delete or disable it.
