IMHO, no, even though it is ethical to defend yourself with lethal force. War is more than just self defense. It's the protection of the state, which is itself an immoral institution.

I am not qualified to state a dogma on that ... but I feel it innate right for people to defend themselves ... there may be a very few instances where such a defense is actually starting and engaging war ... historically ... when the Athenians knew the Medes under Xerxes were sailing to conquer them ... Mounting troops to meet them at Marathon perhaps could be construed both as engaging in war and even starting it ... Yet is entirely selfdefense which is "morally" okay in my book ...

War only causes more damage to all the people involved.

Read this USA Today story about how we are sending our soldiers to Iraq not only to get killed, but to be psychologically traumatized and reprogrammed to be heinous killers. We know this happens. Why do we keep subjecting our own citizens to torture like this? Just being there is torture. If we were fighting for our lives, I could understand. What are we accomplishing here?

Was it morally right for those men to run those planes into those buildings killing all those people?
Was it morally right for Saddam to kill all those people just because he didn't like them?
Was it morally right for Clinton to get blow jobs in the Oval office while pretending to be the president?
NO
NO
NO
We have wars because usually the other side just can't stop wanting that power thing. And usually because other people just can't keep from killing everyone they don't like.
So what do you think?

I would engage in a war for my freedom and my loved ones. There are times when you just have to fight.

its never morally right to start a war, but there is nothing wrong with protecting yourself when somebody has declared war on you.

I believe If you are defending your country it is moral. I believe if there is clear evidence of widespread genocide or corruption that is essentially killing people then it might be justified. Invading Iraq was NOT moral. the evidence was a joke. We need to support anyone who will help put an end our occupation of Iraq. I digress..sorry

Of course. It is also immoral not to engage in war at times. Would it have been better for us not to have deafeated Hitler in WW2, of course not.
Self defense or self preservation is not immoral.
