VLC Media Player is by farrrrrrrrrrr the best one out there.

.It is completely free.
.It is open-source, which means that anybody can open it up, look at the code, andif they think that they know a better way of doing something they just do it. This implies EXCELLENT functionality and minimal number of errors/crashes.
.It is very small in size.
.There is no spam or anything included in it.
.It takes minimial power to run and won't bog down your system.
.It has almost all of the codecs that exist out there built into it. This means that you are probably never going to have to find and download any codec. (including quicktime)
.The codecs are a part of the program which means that there will be no clutter when you install VLC Media Player. It will not create like a million folders and a billion items in your start-up list.
.It is completely customizable and has some awesome features. You can set your own hotkeys to do a lot of stuff. It has a snapshot grabber built in. So you can take a snapshot of ANYTHING that it will play in JPEG or BMP format.

.(BONUS for MAC users), there is a MAC version available as well and it is perfect ofr MAC users because there is nothing available regarding codecs for MACs.

Get it man! I have used it for years and after I learned about VLC, I haven't used anything else. VLC has everything in it.
