First of all - I've never known hydrogen peroxide to take away pain. What you should use is Clove Oil. Now THAT works - for definite. Clove Oil is a natural anesthetic and will numb wherever it touches inside your mouth - it is however very strong so once you touch it to the tooth and gum area, wash your hands really well because it stings your eyes if it gets anywhere near them.

You can buy Clove Oil at your nearest health store and some pharmacies sell it. Just ask at the counter.

Secondly, nothing will heal the pain of a toothache except a trip to your dentist.

Pain is an indicator that something is wrong in your tooth. Just taking away the pain does not heal the problem - it may only get worse if not looked at and treated.

Toothache has known to be deadly when people ignore it and just take pain-killers. You build up infection in your mouth and if the infection travels up through your jaw it can potentially infect your brain. It's serious so don't just take something to ignore the pain - although it will help while you make your appointment and try to get on with your life in the meantime.

Good luck - I hope you sort it out either way.

Peroxide For Toothache

Okay, first off aspirin, which someone else said, may take away the pain but it is REALLY bad for your gums and teeth and may cause more problems in the future. Aspirin is actually acidic and may take away the pain for a little while but will cause more damage than it helps. I've used peroxide (diluted in water) for years. I put it in my mouth and swish it around the infected area every 5-10 minutes or so and it usually helps the pain after a while. If you have an abcess or infected tooth and hot compress can help. It rarely helps with the actual pain but putting a hot compress on my jaw for 10-15 mins every hour or so (not more than 5 times a day) can help the abcess come to a "head" quicker than it would on it's own and then it can be popped and drained easily. Clove oil works wonders as well. I've had teeth and gum problems all my life (had oral cancer as a kid and insurance doesn't cover the pain you feel after the cancer is in remission and your teeth just suck).

Stop Toothache in 10 Minutes

A toothache is a sign of a problem. As others have said, immediately see your dentist. Additionally, unless this happens from a cracked or chipped tooth, most problems stem from oral hygiene habits. Plaque is bacteria, and when bacteria work under your gumline it leads to gingivitis that then leads to periodontitis which then leads to no teeth and dentures, so become more vigilant. Additionally, those bacteria leave nasty little byproducts that eat away at tooth enamel and you end up with some cavities that can be quite painful.

If you have a toothache, it's likely that you have a serious problem. Putting hydrogen peroxide on it won't stop the pain, and it certainly won't take care of the underlying abscess, exposed nerve root, etc. You need to see a dentist ASAP. Your tooth is trying to tell you that something is very wrong.

If you have a toothache then a dentist is what you need. If you have symptoms such as spontaneous aching (especially at night), hot and cold sensitivity and such chances are you have an absess and a root canal is needed. I don't recommend you having it pulled if it can be saved..you'll want to hang onto your teeth as long as you can and take any necessary measures to do so!
