Me and my ex broke up a year and a half ago when I moved to college because he could not handle the long distance. We havve continued to stay friends and he calls me about every two weeks adn we see each other now and then. This has been going on for a year and a half now and I realized recently that it needs to stop because its holding me back from other relationships. He tells me he likes to talk to me, I still mean a lot to him....etc. So I decided that I wouldn't answer his calls and he kept on calling and calling. When I did answer he tried to say he just wanted to see how I was doing..yadda yadda yadda. Doesn't it mean something though that he called 3 days in a row after I didnt' return his calls? Does he still have an attachment for me and if so why doesn't he want to be with me?

at this point, you need to communicate what is going on. ask him what is going to happen between you two? tell him you got other guys waiting to get with you, you don't have time to be left hanging anymore.

I think he obviously wants to be with you still. but he is probley confused on if he can deal with you being so far away.
if you still like him, give him an ultimatum, either stop calling or make a commitment.
if you dont feel the same tell him exactly whats up, or lie, tell him you have a new boyfriend and he does not like that you are still talking to him

you don't owe him anything! he's an ex for a reason and should stay in the past! you're not obligated to answer or return his calls at all, find a guy that will want to be with you no matter what, because that's what you deserve!

Maybe he was just worried about you and figured you had not gotten the messages as you had failed to return his calls. next time just answer and tell him you are out with another guy and you'll call him back for a friendly chat as soon as you have some free time.

Sounds like he misses you. Maybe remind him that it was his idea to break up because he couldn't handle a long distance relationship. If you are not interested, tell him so. And ask him not to call so often.

well you say you guys are friends...wouldn't a friend want to know what the hell was going on when you suddenly stop talking to them? It's not him holding you back from moving on it's you...he doesn't control your actions. Maybe you should ask him.

why don't you be a grown up and tell him what is on your mind instead of leaving him to guess with your rude non-response? How would you like to be treated that way?

Control is the word. That's what he wants. Get on with your life!
