Well, there is an easy way and a more envolved way.....
The easy way will cost you around $50-$60+ dollars but may prove to be well worth the cost. Several companies offer a tv tuner adapter which is a small, external piece of hardware that you hook to you computer generally via the USB port.
The adpater has input jacks such as S-Video, Composite, & Left/Right RCA. You just hook your camera, DVD, TV, etc. to these jacks and the software that is supplied will pretty much do the rest. One such device is the Dazzle DVD from Pinancle Systems, http://www.pinnaclesys.com. You can also find other brands by searching for "TV Tuner Adapters" at Google.com
Now if your interested, the more envolved way....
You still will need to get your video to your PC via a video card which takes the video inputs mentioned above, a tv tuner adapter, or you may have a video on your PC you want to put to DVD.
Once you get your video into the PC you will most likely need to convert the video to the proper DVD video format and resolution. Just having an AVI movie isnt going to cut it, DVDs/VCDs require MPEG-2 compression and the proper resoultion to show on your television. Here is a short list of valid resolutions....
720 x 480 - MPEG2
704 x 480 - MPEG2
352 x 480 - MPEG2
352 x 240 - MPEG2
352 x 240 - MPEG1 (can be used for VCDs)
You can get many freeware or trail video products on the Internet that can do this conversion, such as TMPGenc or VirtualDub. This process can take up to 3-4 hours depending on the length of the video and speed of your PC.
Once the conversion is done, you will want to check to make sure the audio stays in sync throughout the entire video. Because of all the conversion stuff that is going on in background it is not unlikely this will occur. Of course there is a trick to keeping this from happening but that is probably better left to another question.
After all that, then you can use a program like NeroVision or DVD Movie Maker to build your DVD menus (if you wish), add title screens, etc.....then you burn to a DVD....your done.
I have went through this entire process many times and I hate myself for getting involved nearly everytime. Again, if you dont want to bother with all this stuff....spend the $50.
