It is good because it alows both parents to have equal time with the children and be a part of their lives however the drawbacks are if you have joint custody then you are stuck in the same town as the ex as the kids will be in school and instead of being without them two days on weekends you go a week at a time. If you don't plan on moving or anything of that nature then go for it. My ex and I thought about doing joint custody but we decided it would be better on the kids to have one permanant home and not to be bounced back and forth every other week. The kids spend as muh time with their dad as they want but I have custody and it is working out well for all of us.

That's a good question. Of course the advantage is that the parents get to see more of the children and visa versa. However, what is it like for the children? I would hope that is something every parent would take into consideration. A child needs stability and being shuffled back and forth is not stable. If you want a genuine answer to this question, I suggesat you ask a child that is in this perdicament.

To the parents- it's like saying you both won
To the kids -they need 1 home
Joint custody is a term. Kids need one home and visitation from the non-custidial parent should be flexable. But to shuttle the kids from house to house from week to week or month to month is selfish and unfair
