no, the addiction is a chemical problem in the brain, it is not like a pathogen (virus or bacteria) which can be in the blood.

I'm surprised by a few of the answers here. It is true that in developed countries heroin users are not eligble blood donars but I'm assuming this is a hypothetical question:
Very likely. I'm not familiar with the heroins mode of action but if the substances enters the body in the form of donated blood rather than the normal route of entry then surely the physiological effects of heroin will be exactly the same, including its addictive properties.

The issue is not if they are an addict, but if they actually have heroin in their system. If so, it is possible that the person receiving the transfusion could suffer effects - although I would not say they would be "addicted." A similar example is seen in babies who are born to crack addicts. The babies receive nutrients as well as toxins from the mother's blood - and can suffer serious effects from the cocaine in the mother's blood.

No!!! The tainted blood sample will be filtered out by the selection process (for the blood). the recipient will never come in to contact with that blood

They do not allow heroin addicts to donate blood, simple as that.. and if they do... the blood is thoroughly screened.

No, but most addicts will only try to sell their plasma, not blood. No worries. They won't even take my blood because I do not weigh enough, and I am healthy. The screening is good.

No. Your body needs to develop a chemical addiction before it becomes dependent. They might get a bit high, but not addicted.

No, and heroin addicts are not allowed to donate blood. They screen everybody that donates to make sure there are no heroin addicts.

Absolutely... They are surely on the road to hell as we speak... Unless the recipient is a junky, as well... Then they are on the road to hell at twice the speed...Probably, anyone reading this question is damned....
