Vitamins and nutrients are not the same thing. You NEED vitamins, minerals, fats, sugars, salts, calories, fiber, and sheer bulk for your stomach and intestines to work correctly.

They can give you a low residue diet, or a low bulk diet when needed, but they are not healthy to stay on for very long- and the temporary weight loss would not stay off. Your habits and needs would not have changed so you'd just put the weight right back on.

Our daily intake of balanced meals, including water, contains all necessary vitamins and minerals that is required for maintaining good health. A particular vitamin or a capsule of multivitamins and minerals can only be supplementary to what we eat, if and when our food lacks in the basic nutrients. Therefore, you cannot just take a vitamin and some water to replace your daily food intake.

You cannot get protein, carbs, and fat from a multivitamin.

You need at least 1200 calories per day for your organs to get the nutrients that it needs or else organs cells will die and if your prolong your fast for a long period, you can do permanent damage. Organs include your heart and your brain.

You need electrolytes to keep your sodium/potassium levels balanced or you can have a heart attack. Runners die in marathons cause they drink too much water which dilutes their electrolytes to almost null.

You need fiber for your metabolism to function. Once you start eating again, you will probably have constipation cause your metabolism basically stopped during your fast. Also, everything you eat will turn to fat cause your body is going to want to save everything.

People who "diet" by not eating basically are slowly killing themselves. Also anorexics may look great on TV or the Big Screen, but they look horendous in person. And you may break all your bones when you have sex.

I am not trying to scare you, but I've been a runner all my life and have been dealing with my own eating disorders all my life. Seek help if you feel you are going down that path.

If you stopped eating and only took vitamins and supplements, your metabolism will shut down and fail to function properly - probably for the rest of your life.

If you fasted long enough, you would cease to lose weight because you managed to put your body into "starvation mode". Your digestive system is there for a purpose and "cheating" it out of its job can cause serious health problems for you down the road.

A no food diet is a horrible way to lose weight not only because of the health issues, but also because your skin will literally hang off your bones. Would you really want to look that way?
