I'm 12 years old
5'3
158 lbs.
I play soccer and stuff and my mom says I weigh what I do because
of me having muscle but I think I am obese. I dont look very "heavy" but you can tell and do you think it's time to take action like a diet plan , or one of those groups that my doctor can get me in at the hospital or something. But my question is so you think it is really time to start doing something besides trying to excerise once a day and watching what I eat because I do that already. Thanks, Answers Please!!

Don't look at the scale!!!

If you are active it probably is muscle, If you feel you have to take action, do talk to a doctor who can refer you to a dietician. You are still growing and you may have a growth spurt, getting taller I mean, so your weight will then be distributed more evenly, listen to your mom she knows you best. Try not eating anythin after 8:00pm and eat as you normally do only once you have filled your plate, look at it, and decide if you need that much of a serving, meat servings should be no bigger than the palm of your hand. You can go to the Y or look up a diabetes site because you really have to control your diet and they have very good tips on how to control your diet while eating sensibly. Don't frett over it, another way is to monitor everything you eat by writing it down, some people don't realize how much they eat between meals. Good luck

Truely diet and exercise is the only thing that can control a persons weight... Having not seen you I can not say if you are obese... Body mass index is an important factor here... If you are concerned ask your Dr to refere you to a nutrtionist.. See if there are things you could do to improve your diet... There may be no real changes to make... Remember that muscle weighs more then fat.... So if you are really muscular then your base weight will be more then someoen else of your height....

Don't get overly concerned about your weight, you are still young.
Think more about being healthy and looking good.

Burn more calories than you eat. Take in about 2000 a day.

Cut your fat intake.

Eat three cups of fat free low cal yogurt a day (make sure it has live cultures in it).

Do 45-60 min. of aerobic exercise a day (preferably before you eat in the morning).

Do 20 min of weight training three times a week.

I lost 40 lbs in two months and have kept it off for two more months doing this. I also took my body fat % from 30% to 14%

Be Blessed

I would have to say that from what you have explained, if you truly are eating properly and exercising daily, that you are in good health. Body-types vary from person to person and ethnicity group to ethnicity group. If you are concerned, consult a Nutritionist. A nutritionist will be able to analyze your diet and exercise plan much more accurately than a physician.

It may also be necessary to have a complete blood panel to check certain levels in your blood. This work should be completed by your family physician.

your not really obese, because muscle weighs more than fats but then for 12 year olds you should be around 110-130 lbs.

Have a body mass analysis done. Lots of gyms will do this for you, or a doctor's office might as well. Basically, have them measure your fat and lean body mass. That should help you determine what, if any, adjustments you need to make.

Yes get started you are still young and now is the time to deal with it. Your mom is sweet by saying what she said, but this doesn't help you in the long haul. Go get em!

You are doing alot already. Ask your doctor why you aren't losing the weight.

It maybe normal for your body, check your height's weight range.
