They are herding dogs.... she will circle. This is normal.
She pulls on the leash because she has not yet been trained to heel. Take her to obedience classes.... Petsmart has them but I do not know how good they are.... or find a local, reputable trainer to teach you to teach your dog.
If the whines when you cry she is just showing empathy.... somethings dogs naturally have.... It's one of the reasons people love them so much!
Training will do a world of wonder for you both!
Hope I helped and good luck!

You definitely need help. You need an obedience class. PRONTO.
These dogs are among the smartest, most active dogs alive today, they are really not suited to being house pets. They were bred to herd sheep all day. Everyday, rain or shine. She needs as much exersize as you can give her. Buy a bicycle so that you can take her on long runs (an hour or more) at least twice a DAY. I'm talking an EXTREME amount of exersize.
She is going crazy. You need to give her more to do. Look into doggie day care so that she gets out and plays during the day. There are places you can take her to stay, like with children, or you can have someone come to your house and take her for walks.
Flyball and agility are good activities, in addition to the daily exersize. Look them up on the internet. Some cities have herding clubs, she would love an opportunity to herd. If you contact the club, you may find someone who will work with her.
Good Luck with her. You are gonna need it. Next time do a little more research before you get a dog.

As soon as you come home from work...Play, play , play, play, PLAY WITH ME!!!. Sit on the floor and play ball. fetch, tug, tussle, Frisbee, even in the house in the winter.
Then get a harness, instead of a collar, I don't know why, and then walk her! Then talk to her making eye contact, My girl and I dry our hair together in the morning, I use the blow dryer in the mirror, she stands up and putts her paws on the dresser and We share hair brushing before work,. I sleep with her , share my breakfast with her. I even bought her a puppy to herd while I was not home in the day. Now she child abuses, a 90 pound German Shepherd female pup that is almost two and cowers before the teeth of the 42 lb Border Collie.
So, I think my spoiled, dog is not a problem, but you do...Get to a good dog school, Make sure you ask several veterinarian assistants, pet store clerks, and other young girl types who are emotional enough about their pets to be really truthful in the answer about the best schools in the area!
Or, let her be the BOSS/PRINCESS she was born to be.

You really need to learn how to walk a dog on lease. Always keep the collar high up the neck so you have complete control of the dog's head. When you walk your dog, your attitude is very important. You must be relaxed, head up, and act like a boss. Your dog feeds off your attitude. If you show any weakness, your dog will feel it and think of you as a lesser being. Remember you are the boss, because you are human and your dog is the lesser being and needs to be guided to proper behavior. Never let your dog lead you. Always lead your dog. Never beg or whine.
I have taught my dog simple tricks like 'sit', go to the toilet on command, 'jump', and know what I mean when I say 'outside'.
I keep all commands simple one word commands. When we are going for a walk, we have a little ritual. He loves his walk. So he when I tell him we are going 'outside', he sits in a certain place waiting for me to put on his lease. Then he sits in another certain place by the door where he waits for me to call him outside. He is so cute waiting and eager to go outside for his walk. For a while we walk with me slightly in front and him close beside me. Then once he has done this well, he gets some free time to do doggy things like pee, poop, and smell. Than back to controlled, relaxed walking. Later some free time again and so on.
Border collies are easily trainable and love to please their masters. So if you assume the proper attitude of the dog's master, you should do well. For more education watch the TV show "The Dog Whisperer". The is a great show, both entertaining and educational. They now sell a DVD.

She needs a LOT of work to do. Buy her a treadmill and put up a picture of some sheep so she can run all day long. That's what Border Collies are for. Didn't anyone tell you that before you got her? Maybe you can find a sheep farmer that will take her.
They are WORKING dogs. That means they need to work or they go nuts. They have to feel useful. (Too bad more people aren't like them.)

I wish I could help you, but border collies are a class onto themselves; I know, as I am training a reactive female myself. This is a breed of dog who really needs a job, with it's highly developed chase instinct, that we breed to help in herding duties. Lots of luck.
PS The behaviorist will tell you they can " turn water into wine,", you don't have to believe them.

there's a border collie on my flyball team that hates domestic canines. sturdy with different canines, as long as they are not getting in his face, sturdy with human beings, sturdy with childrens. If a domestic dog exhibits familiar submissive domestic dog habit (licking lips and different domestic dog issues), he will attack them. He merely does not like domestic canines. answer? She keeps him faraway from domestic canines.
