What is the new software? What media?
Most is expanded from a CD, or, dragged and dropped.
Very easy, fast, accurate!
Too bad Microsoft will never be there, or do that!
In fact, Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com, and all the Corporate computers for development and testing, all routers, all servers, numbering over 45,000 systems, run Linux, because it is upto 50X faster, absolutely virus proof, and it is FREE! They would run Mac OS X, but, it doesn't operate in the X86 instruction set.

Insert your CD, or mount (Safari should do this on its own) the .dmg and launch the installer/application/pkg off the disk or mounted disk.
It will ask you to agree to a license, agreement etc, select the destination (the installer should select Macintosh HD by default)
click next, and depending on what your installing, and the extent of the program, it could ask you for a few more things, which could be a variety of things, such as names, adresses, Serial Numbers etc, although you should be brought to an installer screen.
Allow the installer to install completely, restart if it reccomends you do.

insert the cd.......it does everything automatically thats why windows copied it!
