Personally, I think people take for granted how INEFFECTIVE it is. Between myself and my closest friends, we have:

2 pill and condom babies
2 pill/condom/foam babies
5 Depo babies (twins AND triplets, same mom)
7 pill babies
1 condom/foam/diaphragm baby

Is it just me, or is the pill a JOKE?! WIth methods like the nuva ring and mirena that are waaay more effective and have less side effects, you would think the pill would be obsolete. Personally, I love my Mirena. 18 months and I am baby and symptom free.

What has your experience been?

I got pregnant with my daughter last year while on the pill, but thank god for that! :) Although since my husband and I are not financially or physically prepared for another baby just yet (our daughter is only about 7 months..) I am on the Depo shot and we use condoms as well. I don't really trust the shot or the pill, which is why we use condoms, too(against my hubby's protest lol), but I love that after having two doses of the shot I have not had my period! Which equals no more horrendous menstrual cramps like I have had ever since I got my period when I was 11!! And I don't have to plan my life around a period! I think the only people that should use the pill exclusively are people that just need to regulate their period or want to ease their cramps or something. I've known way too many people that have gotten pregnant on the pill!

The problem with the pill is that you are supposed to take it at the same time every day for it to be more effective. Most people take it when they remember or double up when they miss. That's not good. The pill is still my favorite because it has been around the longest, and if taken properly, is very effective.

Everyone i know on Depo bleeds a lot. My sister got off that because she still bled.

I have been on the Mirena IUD for 5 years. I love it! The initial insertion of having having it put in was painful, but I have had 5 years of very scant periods, with no symptoms of cramping, bloating etc. Unfortunately it doesn't get rid of PMS. I love this IUD so much that I am due to have another inserted next week. I can have it inserted and for the next 5 years I am worry free. It is 99.9% effect. Check out their site at www.mirena.com. I have been on numerous pills, condoms etc...but when I got prescribed this I never looked back!

Both of my children were "pill" babies. Since then, I am on Ortho Evra the birth control patch. I love it!!! Mild cramps (I have been hospitalised twice for pain during my period). My periods last three days, I always start on the same day, and they are light. I love the patch and would recommend it to anyone. I will never trust the pill again!

A note to Jim T...Nothing is 100% effective, especially a condom! The only way to guarentee no pregnancy or std is abstinence, so don't be fooled by false hopes!

I tried the pill for a while and didnt like it so I switched to the depo for a few years. I never had any problem with the depo at all. My cousin was on the depo and she had twins. Several people I know haves gotten pregnant on different kinds of birth control. None of its 100%.

I have an IUD called Mirena. It stays in my uterus for five yrs. I don't have pills to take, I don't even have to think about it. I have had it for two yrs, no problems, no pregnancies. It also has the nice side affect of not having periods. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have used the pill and I have not had a problem. I take it everyday at the same time, we also use a condom. I guess it depends on when you take it and how careful you are

I agree with the person above who takes Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I also take that and take it the same time everyday and have only forgotten to take it once since I started it in like March, and I haven't gotten pregnant.
