A new survey of religion in the USA (Baylor Survey) finds that people who believe in God view him in four different ways: authoritarian, benevolent, critical, or distant. How do you view him and why?

2006-09-13 15:52:44 · 26 answers · asked by Anonymous in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

According to this survey 91.8% believe in God or a higher power.

Those who believe God is authoritarian are religious and politically conservative.

Those who believe God is benevolent believe God sets absolute standards and is forgiving.

Those who believe God is critical find God judgemental and does not intervene.

Those who believe God is distant, believe God is a cosmic force that launched the world, then left it spinning on it's own.

I can not pick a best answer, so I'll ask the voters to pick the one they feel is the most honest and sincere.

Thank you for participating. I found your responses enlightening.

He is the Creator. I view him as the originator of all things. But I believe that he is watching it all unfold, not guiding it or planning it and not interfering in our lives.

I view GOD on all and GOD is ALL
and all the religions to me are Good
Religion is just a way to get contact with that energy so strong because with all the superficial culture USA have been trying hard to put around the World
We need more than never before the religions to get close to the energy (GOD is the Energy and all we see a touch)
GOD IS ALL(SUPERFICIAL IS :THE AMERICAN CULTURE)The 2 war and the Bomb of Japan made USA be so strong to get over the Word and make it so Superficial because if the Bomb in Japan wouldn't happen the World with the Japan culture would be so much close to GOD and easy to feel the energy God have but as USA rather Hollywood and their plastic Bubble Gum full of MIERDA we are so lost and that is why you Ask these Cains of questions

The One True God cannot be considered as an object for man's survey. How can you survey about an Unkowable Being.
He is the Creator of all worlds, of all things visible and invisible. No one can see Him, but all His Divine Messengers disclose that God is closer to man than his life veins. This is the subject for deep meditation rather than for instinctly feeling or intellectual experimenting.
We may get to understand more and more about God by studying and using the twin instruments of science and religion, rather than by imagination or imitation.
Pray for your attainment.

It is unfortunate that people try to put HIM in a box.
God is benevolent YES! But, He is also Sovreign which means He can do as He so desires.
He is God and we are not.
He knows what is best for us and is not far from us UNLESS we are still in our sins.
The whole reason for Jesus coming to die and rise again for us was to appease God's wrath towards sin!
Sin cannot stand in His presense. Because He is a holy God. Which is why He came in the form of man. Therefore, God , the Son, in the form of a man -a perfect God-Man, died for us.

I don't see or feel God is a person. The concept of God is a belief and as such I feel connected to and part of that which is unnamable and undefinable - like the universe, we see it and can study it, but we can not fully understand, yet we are a part of it adn it is a part of us.

To define that which you call God - kind, understanding, compassionate, tolerant, accepting, joyous and all that is in our hearts, becuase that is where what you call God springs from.

Look inside yourself, that is where you will find your answer and if each of us were to do the same and then project that to each other, the world would be a happier more peacful place.

You know I am very grateful that I don' t base my beliefs on what I can' t feel, hear or see or on things that I do feel, see and/ or hear

People say they don' t believe in God because they don't feel him, hear Him, or see Him
Well, you know I may not feel someone else' s heartache
But, I know that person is going through a divorce, just lost a child or a dear one, they just received a bad report from the doctor etc
But, the pain is there and that person is hurting

I don't hear the cries of a hurting child that may be either in the next room, the next house the next street or even in another country but I know that there are hurting children everywhere.

I may not hear a song that a bird sings at your window but that bird is there and he/ she is singing just as you don' t hear the one perched on my window seal. But, again, one is perched and singing at my house as well.

I don' t see my mind but I know I have one.
So maybe these people that can' t hear, feel or see God are not paying attention or looking in the right place
And, maybe they don' t have a brain because they can' t see it. But, whatever I know that my God is real

And, my God is loving, caring, merciful, kind, gentle, long suffering,. He is someone on whom I can depend
I put my trust in Him. He is a keeper of His word!

He is as close to us as we will allow Him to be Even better than that. David in Psalms says " If I make my bed in hell you are there with me". Wow ! What a word!

In Soloman
He calls me His beloved and also
He says that I am His and He is mine. Glory be ! ! !
He is a giver
He rewards those that diligently seek Him
He is Joy, Truth, Peace, Almighty God. Provider, Healer, Redeemer, Savior, He is LOVE ! ! !

Sovereign would probably fit under both authoritarian and benevolent, but that's how I view God.

incredibly, Muslims view God as a "Divine" parent & "One" & in straightforward terms God - noted as "Allah" - for this reason Muslims experience that Christians are incredibly "polytheists" even however the mainstream concept of Christianity claims the "Godhead" (it is Father, Son, & Holy Spirit) as being "One." additionally, considering the fact that God is considered as sacred, no person is meant to be waiting to envision Him & stay, so that they gained't enable photographs the two - those could be seen as "idols". *extra documents: (Mohammed is assumed to be the prophet who began the Muslim faith, & Abraham by utilising Hagar gave start to Ishmael to be the Muslim line of ancestry it is why the Muslims are partly brothers to the Jews, they being descendants from an identical father, yet via Sarah giving start to Isaac.) i'm hoping this became efficient.

distant, yet benevolent. if he helped us in everyday life, we would rely to much on him. yet if he didnt at all, we would lose hope altogether. he is good and knows whats best for us: freedom to make our own choices
