1/2 million pounds each...(between) means both which is two.
The man had 2 children

Half a million pounds because between would 2 children...more than 2 children would be among.

Each child gets one half million pounds. Since you used the word between that tells me that there are two children.

2 or 4 To be divided equally it would have to be 2 or 4
Three wouldn't work because you would have that 3, 3, 4 divide so it would not be equal
I don't know how much a pound ($2.00 I think) is so that might factor in the 2 or 4 answer

Half a million pounds. He obviously has two children. The word "between" gives it away

500,000 pounds each.
Since you said no trick, my logic is that you used the word "between" his childern. In English language you use between if there are only 2 subjects. Hence the above answer.
Am I right?

500,000 pounds each. If there were more than 2 children the wording would be "divided equally among his children" not "between".

Each of his children got 500,000 pounds. Child is single, children is plural meaning more than one. I had to read this 5 times before it sunk in.
