Lexapro is really more of a placebo than the doctors would want you to think...They give it as a first try, to see if your depression is minor. Ask for something like Zoloft.

Honey, give the stuff a chance to work. I have been on Lexapro for two years now and it has been a miracle drug for me but it takes two to three weeks to get into your system. You will not be a zombie. If it makes you sleepy take it at night instead of during the day. I promise your sexual drive will come back. I went through the same thing when i started on it. I have been on just about every anti-depressent in the book and I swear this is the only one that has worked. Give it time.

you need to let it kick in before you judge it, i was on it and the doc told me any medication like that takes about 6 weeks to really kick in. I tried committing suicide before i started taking lexapro....and with the help of that medication i am still alive today. if you really have concerns such as the sexual drive and sleepiness you really need to schedule a follow up and let the doc know how you feel about the side affects. Most medications like the one you are taking will have that affect on you. Sometimes the doc can give you additional pills to help with those side affects. Call and make an appointment.

I was put on Welbutrin and I was doing fine. Then, to prevent (nonexistent) manic episodes, the nurse practitioner added Lexipro at night. I didn't leave my recliner for three days. I don't know about it being a placebo; I do know that these anti-depressants in their various forms do way different things in different people. I refused to take it anymore; the NP made me see her at twice the frequency for a few months and that was that. The other person also mentioned Zoloft; I've known people for whom that was the ticket. It worked perfectly but when they gave me Zoloft I was recliner bound physically but my mind wouldn't stop racing. It was a really weird trip.
What I'm saying is that of the antidepressants, it doesn't seem that Lexipro is for you and your doctor should go in a different direction.

The stuff is great, works well for me..But it takes about three weeks for it to totally get into your system. Give it time to start working, you should see some effects soon. Also be sure you take it regularly, if you stop or miss any pills it can increase your anxiety/depression a lot!!!!

You should at least try it for 3 weeks, those symptoms might go away. If you still feel crappy, tell your doctor to put you on something new, there are so many anti-depressents on the market, that you shouldn't have to compromise. Try zoloft, or prozac or Paxil...

I would think a medication would take longer than a week to take effect and for side effects to resolve. I would give it some time before taking some other action. Your body and mind must adjust to this type of medication.
