Depends on what you believe.
If you believe in original sin (Christians) the baby must be blessed by a priest of other religious person before burial.
If you do not believe in original sin (Muslims) the baby will go right to heaven

I can't say what happens to the soul of the baby. Only the Lord truly knows the answer to your question. The bay wasn't old enough to understand and accept Christ, so I don't believe the baby will be judged on this. The baby also was too young to commit sin. I would hope the child would have another chance at life on earth.

Most religious people will tell you they go right to heaven. I don't understand that since a baby doesn't have a personality...and our personalities/souls are shaped by our experiences. So a baby that goes to heaven just all of a sudden becomes a grownup in Heaven???? They can't stay babies forever...there is no pooping in Heaven, after all.
Not only does it make no sense but it also isn't fair. Well it surely isn't fair that God lets some people experience the death of their children (as part of his 'working in mysterious ways' plan) but it also isn't fair that the babies get a Free Pass into Heaven without having to have faced Temptation.

Any child who dies before they reach the age of accountability, in other words, before they can understand who Jesus is and what He did, goes to heaven. They are not innocent, for they are born with the inherited sin of Adam. But, Jesus claims them as His own because they never had the chance to make that choice. This starts at conception, when life begins, and goes to the age of accountability, which is, I believe, different for different people. Biblically, this is probably around the age of 13 or so.

While we are all born with a sin nature, I have heard of a doctrine called the "age of accountability"; basically, it states that God will not hold children accountable for their sinful state until such time as they are able to realize that they do have a sin nature and need to do something about it.
Unfortunately, I have no passages to point you to on this, so I don't know exactly the parameters of it or even if it is the truth, but I have heard it talked about many times.

No. Though we are all born to the sin-curse placed upon Adam and Eve, until we're capable of understanding the fact that we're sinners in need of a relationship with Christ, we're innocent of our sin, therefore a baby will go to heaven that dies in that state.

If you are Catholic, yes. The baby will go to hell unless he/she has been baptized before death. That is why Catholics have christenings as soon as possible after a child is born. Other branches of Christianity and other religions believe in an age of accountability that says children are not responsible for their actions until they are capable of knowing right from wrong. No specific age is given for this; I would think it would vary from child to child.

All babies, and children under the age of accountability will go to heaven. We are all born into sin. But they can't tell right from wrong. They will be taken to heaven to be with our Father in Heaven. I think of them as little flowers in heave.

The Church teaches that these individuals are in a state of invincible ignorance and their sins (in this case original sin only) can not imputed to them, but still must be atoned for. It would then be derived that a version of purgatory (some call limbo) would be their lot until judgment.
Addendum: For those Catholics on here, please reference the Catechism at the link below (it does have a concordance) before answering a question "... As A Catholic." It is usually better to know a subject before you teach it.

Until recently, Catholic Church doctrine said that unbaptized babies went to a place called "Limbo", where the child would be joyously happy but for the absence of God. Recently, that doctrine has been revised, and it is now believed that the baby will indeed go to Heaven. I know of no Christian tradition in which any unbaptized person, no matter their age, religion, whatever, will automatically go to hell upon their demise.

Well if I actually believed in that stuff I'd say the baby would go to heaven. Why? Because the baby would be sent home early and wouldn't of had a chance to sin.
