i will be having my custom dinner end of this end. But there are some colleagues that will not be invited. I heard that those not invited have to give cakes as compensation. Can someone pls advise when is the correct timing to distribute the cakes i.e. before the big day or after the big day?

Yeah, not sure what you're looking for here. Do you mean that you think you're supposed to give something to people who aren't invited, or they're supposed to give something to you?

Where are you from? Customs are different in different areas.

I have never heard of this custom. I will assume that if you are not inviting everyone you know from work then it might be the 'office' custom that you take in some cakes for lunch on the last day you work before you get wed.

I not familiar with your custom. Are you from Asia? Any wedding dinner in the U.S. has no tradition for "colleagues". Usually very few "colleagues" are invited to weddings, usually on immediate employers or supervisors. Best of luck!
