One glance is all that is required for infatuation.
I would differentiate this way -- when you're infatuated, you think about that person all the time and can't take your mind off them. You want to see them NOW.
When you love someone, there is no impatience. There is no hurry. There is no time pressure.

I tried to answer this question like five times but keep deleting it...
but this is what it comes down to... if you don't know the difference then you have never been in love.
When you really, really love some one, with every fiber of your being, when you know that that persons knows exactly how to utterly devastate you, yet you know that they would rather die first, when she washes your skanky underware and you pick feminine hygiene products for her at the store and neither of you think twice about it, or even better, are HAPPY to do it, when you have those things... then the difference between love and infatuation is like night and day.
And for the record, I am still infatuated with my wife.

At the start, they are both the same, but infatuation starts to fade after about 2 months.

thats a tough question. i believe that a relationship can start with being infatuated and then grow into love. both have to have a bases for attraction dont they? one meeting and falling could also mean you have met your soul mate.

love is caring for someone and wanting their best before yourself no matter what they do, no matter how much of a jerk they are at times, no matter how suddenly sweet then suddenly evil they act. love is an action, infatuation is a feeling (yes, you can have infatuation at first sight)

love- when you are willing to give your all for one person. where you cant imagine life without them. you can see yourself growing old together and getting through any situation. every time you look in their eyes, you get that same feeling that you did when you first met. every touch, every kiss makes you crave one more.
infactuation- more of a physical attraction than an emotional one. doesn't really have any significant meaning. may grow into love if given the proper time and patience, but usually not. i relate infactuations more to one night stands.

This is how I see it.
Love is from the heart, while infatuation is in a persons mind.

yes, infatuation has no longevity, unlike love which is imprinted onto the heart.
