Paddled at School? Were you ever paddled when you attended school? If so, please answer the questions below!?

Question

1) On how many different occasions?

2) What was the last grade in school that you were paddled?

3) To the best of your memory, if more than once, how many occasions at these three levels: a) Elementary b)Middle school/junior high school c)high school.

4) Do you consider the paddlings to have been not painful, mildly painful, or highly painful (or mixed)

5) Do you now think they were helpful, or not helpful?

6) What state did this occur in? What year did you graduate from high school?

In general, if you wish to add more in any aspect it will be very appreciated, and the information may help to frame future questions.

Not sure if this will help you, but I was TERRIFIED of being paddled at school. I was really so, so afraid that I would talk to my dad about it and would be afraid to go to school in case they thought I did something really bad and it wasn't me, or if I did something bad by accident. My dad finally when he saw how afraid I was told me to "Tell them to call ME and I will come to the school and take care of you."

2. The last grade that I saw someone paddled was 8th grade.

3. Most kids did not get paddles repeatedly. There were only a couple of them that got paddled various times over the years.

4. I think they were painful. Even the toughest kids cried. I think that my principal tried to make it painful on purpose as a deterrent.

5. They helped me to behave, but it really truely scared me.

6. I went to school in Ohio and graduated in 1989.

If corporal punishment were allowed today I would not allow it for my child (unless it were something really bad that they did; then I may consider allowing it). As a teacher I would have a hard time referring most kids if I knew they would be paddled.

2. Last grade was Freshman year of High School
3. In Elementary school: Twice Middle: None High School: Once.
4. Highly painful in Elementary school, but I was never spanked at home, so that may have been why. In high school, I would say mildly.
5. Nope, not helpful..at least not in anything productive or healthy.
6. Illinois in Elementary school, Missouri in High School.
