Go to your local health department and check with them. I know in Missouri they can print you off a certified copy and it cost like $15. If not call the department of Vital Records for your state and they will send you the application and the fee to get it and it is no where near 50 bucks.

You can request it from the County you were born in, it shouldn't be more then $20...if you are too far away to go in person you can call and they should be able to tell you over the phone exactly what you need to provide and how much it will cost.

You can acquire a birth certificate from either the department of "Vitial Statistics or City Hall" in your area. The copy shouldn't cost you no more than $10.00 nowadays.

Contact your state's Dept. of Health, Vital Records. They have birth and death certificates. BTW, if you are getting a passport, be sure the birth certificate has a seal on it.

You have to pay. It's the same here in Canada, 'cos you get the first one for free, or the newest issue or whatever, but if you lose it you have to reapply for one and pay the extra charge.
I'm just going to go to the website and print out a form, fill it out and send it out... with the money I guess.
