Weapons were sent to Saddam because the US had to support him because we could not let Iran win that war. Iran has stated over and over that they will one day take over the entire middle-east. And destroy Israel. The US sent weapons to Osama because, at the time he was fighting the Russians. And we needed his side to win. That is how the world works. During World War 2 we sent billions in aid to Russia, because we didn't want Hitler to win. "My enemies, enemy is my friend." The US has always taken sides but sometimes we are wrong. It is all political, anyway. So to ask a related question: If China attacked Russia what would we do? Depends on the political look at that time. All wars have politics as the number one factor.

We sent weapons to them before because they were our freinds serving our interests then. For example, The Shah of Iran was in charge during the 70s and then he was overtaken by Ayatollah, now the Americans liked Shah not this new guy, becuase I guess he wasn't a good guy, so when the Iran Iraq war happened, the Americans supplied the Iraqis to help them win the war, so mayb if Iran lost, then the Ayatollah would be expelled. But that didn' happen. In Afghanistan, The USSR Soviet union attacked it because it had oil, they need oil. Now as you know in the codl war a war that was fought with proxies never diret military. So there was a group called the Mujahadeen and the leader was Osama Bin Laden, We didn't wnat ht Russians to succedd in taking over Afghanistan, so we supplied Osama weapons and millions of dollars in money, Thats cuz we needed him then to fight our war against the Soviets. Then in 1991 he got pissed at us, and decided to turn on us. Thats why. YOu know a freind you told all your secrets to and now the aren't ur friends? and how they spill out things bout u. That's whats happening.

Because power politics stink and always the innocent people get hurt.
During the Iran/Iraq war in the 1980s which was started by Iraq, Saddam Hussein received the full support of the USA, they gave him intelligence on the Iranian army and turned a blind eye when he used mustard gas and nerve gas against the iranian army and his own citizens in Halubja. Donald von Rumsfeld even went to Baghdad to shake his hand.
They supplied him with materials and technology to make his own chemical weapons which is why they were so certain that he had them before the invasion in 2003; they still had all the paperwork.
His weaponry was supplied by the Soviet Union,USA,France and Germany.
At the same time Iran was being supplied with weapons by the USA through the efforts of Colonel Oliver North.
When the Russians invaded Afghanistan in the 1980s many arabs went to fight them.
One of these was Osama bin Laden who set up a training camp for the mujahedin (taliban) in Peshawar. The name of this camp was called Al qaeda (the base).
These people were subsequently supplied with 1000 Stinger ground to air missiles by Ronald Reagan to shoot down russian aircraft; 500 of these are still unaccounted for.

Because USSR was invading Afghanistan to make it part of USSR. We were backing them because it's in our best interest to stop the spread of communism. I'm beginning to think we should have let the Russians have them because they wouldn't be aloud to think the way they do now under communist rule. For those of you who are too young or cant remember things like John Kerry can't the USSR is the former Russian government before we won the cold war.
