-If your muscles hurt, your body is trying to tell you something. You need to wait until you are almost completely pain free before you continue or you are gonna hurt yourself pretty bad. Work your way up to a workout. Don't throw yourself into any fitness routine. You need to work up to it gradually. Pain is your body telling you that it needs a break.

Are you going into the army tomorrow? lol You sure did overdo! Remember when you work your legs at the gym to start with light weights, if you aren't sore the next day, then go heavier the next time. For muscle balance work the front, back, and inner thigh muscles, calf muscles, shins. Be sure to stretch after your workouts and runs. You might want to start out working your legs in the gym one day and running the next and tweak it accordingly. Remember light on the weights!
Another way to do it is to just do your running for a week or two, and let your legs get used to this sort of thing, I'm concerned that your legs have no day off! When you work any muscle group in the gym, you can't work them again the next day because of the muscles need for recovery. You can work your legs in the gym every other day, but if you're running on the days inbetween your workouts, the muscles have no time to recover.
There are so many ways to train! Another option (I like this one the best) is to work your legs at the gym with light weights, and then run for a short time. Give yourself the next day off with the lower body and then go work your upper body with weights. I like this routine best, this way you're not just sitting around doing nothing (please!) I hope you're giving yourself some time to do this before boot camp!

You see, when you use your muscles in any way, they break down just ever so slightly and grow back a little bigger then they were before. So, if your legs are hurting badly, then you know that in a few days or even a few weeks they are going to grow back quite a bit larger.
So even if you are not trying to get muscle, you ARE going to. But if I were you, I would stop working out a week or so before you do go to the army. That way your muscles can regrow and tighten back up so that they will not hurt as much when you go.
But, yes, by all means, work out. It will help you so much when you get to the army that you will thank people who don't have anything to do with your life.

Yes, you've done the right thing. If you exercise too strenuously, especially if you're not used to it, and hurt your muscles, giving them a day of rest was a good idea. Then when you get back to it, even though they're still a little stiff and sore, you'll find they will limber up faster. It is making it better because the muscles are getting in condition and responding to the exercise.
It's good that you continue exercising because when you get into basic, they are not going to coddle you. It's a good plan to get as fit and strong as you can before you go into training.
And by the way, the best of luck to you in the army. God bless and keep you safe from harm if they send you to Iraq or Afghanistan.

When you work out, you tear the muscle so that it can heal again and be stronger. If you do it too much, the muscle can't heal. Work out for a reasonable amount of time. Then, for a break, get some water and something healthy. Eating right is just as important as working out when you're training for the army.

It sounds like your trying to do too much at one time. Working any muscle when they hurt really badly is not good for them. Try alternating weight training one day and cardio the other. Yes, you should stretch both before and after a workout.

It's not hurting you. When you have not worked out in a while, when you use those muscles, there is some kind of acid that is released that makes you hurt. When your body gets use to the exercise, it will stop hurting. Although, if you're going to basic training, why worry if and/or when you finish, you'll be totally in shape.
That is quite a sacrifice you are planning on making. God Bless you.

you are waking up muscles that have been slumbering. If you continue on your routine, you will notice the pain eventually going away as these muscles get used to a new way of life. If the pain gets worse and is not getting better, check with your physician. I think you are very smart to get into shape before basic training. That will wake up a whole new host of muscles, everywhere!

You should work your muscles every other day to give them 24 hours recovery time. The way muscles get stronger is that when you work them you create small tears. When the tears repair themselves (on their day off) the muscles get stronger, which will help you get in better shape for your basic training. Also, make sure that you stretch your muscles very well before each workout session. Hope that helps.

Working on a sore or painful muscle can be good. However light exercise is all you should be doing, unless you enjoy pain... take a few days off from the gym to fully recover, placing ice/frozen peas on your leg once a night. Its like muscle brusing. its the build up of lactic acid that has caused your muscles to be tender.
