I'm looking for grants for future teachers. I know they are out there, I'm just not sure that I am looking in the right places. Any help would be appreciated.

There are places where you can go looking for scholarships on the web and in real life. I recommend examining the website for clues and details about the organization before sending in your application. Another important detail is to send in the application well before the deadline.

Check with the high school guidance counselor office because they have a list of local scholarships given out by local organizations. They sometimes have a list of college specific scholarships, too.

The colleges that you are interested in also have a list of scholarships that are handed out by companies or organizations to students attending the college. Some of these do not come automatically with the financial aid package, so it pays to check out the college's financial aid website.

There are scholarships for particular education specialties such as mathematics for example.

There are scholarships out there for left handed individuals, wearing a duct tape dress or tuxedo to the prom, and other crazy things.

Good luck!

I agree with most of what Dawn said, but I would also recommend checking to see if your state has any teacher scholaships as well. I know several states have scholarships for teachers going into specific fields. Some examples from my state of Illinois are listed below.

Good luck!

First of all, fill out a fafsa. That is your ticket to at least one grant, plus loans and scholarships. Visit www.fafsa.gov.
Second, go to fastweb.org This webite is a free scholarship search website. They match u up with scholarships based on your major(s) and interests.
