well ill tell you some cons...... in louisiana you have to get everything on your check, well what if you dont use it, then it will just be a waste of perfectly good milk, cereal, etc

also, in kansas where i live now you get 8 gallons of milk a month!!! i think its absolutely rediculous.... also if you get the wrong item, lets say you get the wrong cereal, you have to go all the way back to the cereal isle and get the right one, or if you get the wrong cheese... do you know how much cheese i have in my freezer and i was only on the program for less than a year with my daughter?? i still have like 12 blocks of cheese, just sitting there... i wish that they could put things on there that would be more useful, yes the milk is very useful but who needs 36 oz of cereal? a month good-ness.... and who can use 4 blocks of cheese.... id love to meet these people...

I was on WIC and there are really no cons about it, it is a great program but I did hate having to go over there every 3 months to either pick up coupons or keep taking my child back because he had to have a re check for height, weight, anemia etc. it was always something. Overall, I loved the program it really helped when I needed it most.

Granted WIC is good for those Mothers, Infants and Children who need assistance in getting food, however, they do not offer/cover any high quality foods.

I'm not talking about Namebrands vs Gerneric, I'm talking food that are natural, preservitive -hormone- steroid- pesticide (etc) free vs. synthetic cheap quality foods that barley meet USDA regs, and are full of preservitive or hormone or steroid or-pesticides. Natural Vs. Unnatural, which have horrible or unknown sideffects.... but it cheap.

As a WIC couselor once told me when I was on WIC, that if I want higher quality food, thats my choice I have to pay for it, if I want it free food you get the generic lowest quality and bare minimum nutritive value foods. Basically the cheapest for the Goverment.

This was my biggest pet peeve, because my baby (all babies) needs the best quality of food, pesticide free, steroid/hormone free, and preserevitive free- in which thats the primary make up of the generic foods covered by WIC - the cheapest of the cheap.

Example: WIC covers Carnation Good Start - the orange can..... which any parent will tell you that is the worst one out there, with the most side effects (gass, vommitting, diaherria), but the will not goverment cover any other kind of Formula despite the new advances in formula production (even by the same company). You'll have to get a prescription from your childs doctor to get other formulas.

In short I lived off rice and beans and water for about a year, so my child could have high quality food for her developing brain and body..... that is my responsiblity as a parent to provide her the best for her overall health. You would think the goverment would hold the same general idea in mind, but they are all about Money.

I agree with what everyone else has said. It definitely helps you out financially with the formula.

The appointments can be a hassle. When I was pregnant with my son, they told me I was getting too fat which really hurt. They will also make you feel guilty if you do not breast feed. If you do not want everything on the list, it doesn't matter, you have to get it. I had to get %1 milk according to the vouchers for both myself and daughter. No one in my house would drink it and it ended up being dumped out every month. The limitations of the stores could also be a problem. Even some people working in the store treat you differently when you use them.

But I would still have to say, getting the help financially out weighs any bad thing about them, especially the first year.

the Women Infant Children (WIC) Program is an awsome program. It helps out families that need help. From what I have seen, it has no cons what so ever. I would recomend the program to anyone that I new that needed it.

i have wic and I save on so much money. I love it, the only con is that you have to make sure you get your appointment. also when you have the child they will check the child , to make sure there healthy and that your doing a good job theyll also will try to make you breast feed. ( which is good) but thats about all I can think of. I realy like wic.

One con is that they only provide one brand of formula. If your child needs a specialized formula in a different brand, they will not cover it.
For the most part its a great program... My daughters special formula was 300 a month of a period of 2.5 years!
Our WIC program uses Emfamil formula for a general use.

WIC is a great program but you have to keep your appointments with you and your baby! They will check up on the baby to make sure they are healthy! thats all i can say about it! My mom was on it and I'm getting on it myself soon!

the only con are making it to your appointments but you can now do your classes online so all you have to do is take a class online which lasts about 5 minutes and print your results and go into the office and get your vouchers without waiting
