There are a lot more than three. Taking just the time as the United States, there was the Antebellum (before Civil War), the Civil War, the Reconstruction, the Interbellum (between World Wars), the Cold War, and the Modern Era, to name just a few. If you really had to name three, I guess I'd say pre-Cold War, Cold War, and post-Cold War.

For the most part I would say it is seperated as Pre Civil War, Civil War to World War 2, then Post WW2... but as someone else pointed out it can be divided into soo many more periods.
