dealing with a copy cat?
a junior colleague that copies everything about me. the way i dress, sit, laugh, comments on business issues, or about people, or hum a tune occasionally. This really irritates me and I want to be able to come up with a smart response to put an end to this for good. That i dont like her makes things worse.

Well since it's in a business environment, you don't want to yell at her or anything like that because it will create a scene, and could in the end make you look like the bad guy instead of her. I would politely tell her that you have noticed that she's been copying you at work and that it makes you uncomfortable. Tell her you would appreciate it if she would stop copying you. One the one hand, she could just admire you and want to be like you. On the other hand she could just be a cow that wants to bug the heck out of you for whatever reason. If it's the latter, and you ask her to stop, and she doesn't, I would let your supervisor know. I would think it would be considered a mild form of harassment. Particularly if you kindly ask her to stop and she doesn't.

This is what you do...
Take him/her aside and say this:
"Hey have you ever read that great book by____ (Make something up, who cares) about impressing your colleagues by the art of subtle mimicking and shadowing their actions?
No? Well I could have sworn you were using the techniques in the book. I thought you were doing so well with it too! Oh well, guess not?
Then smile and walk away... They will either get the message, or they are completely stupid and just trying to bug you?
Yes... I am that much of a bit*ch by the way! I find that quite annoying and I'd put a stop to it immediately! Knowing most insecure people... It'll only get worse before it get's better...
I had to train a woman to help me do my job once and she had a nasty annoying habit of putting her hand on my reclining chair and tipping me backward in it.
I said to her...
Do you like rollercoasters? She said no, I hate them, they make me dizzy and sick (blah blah blah...) to which I interrupted her in mid rant...
Well I would have sworn you were trying to share your joy of rollercoasters with me in how you are always tipping me in my chair, I don't like them either, they make me SICK too. I smiled and she said... "Oh do I do that?, Im so sorry."
and she never did it again.
Basic moral of the story is... People know what they are up to. You can't just come right out and be an obvious as*shole because that is what they want you to do... Just find a way to twist it back onto them and make them look stupid for doing it... Preferably in front of someone else. It never fails!
Work is hard enough without having to deal with the politics and sh*it! I have NO time for people like this...

Well, this person that copy you must really like you and the way you do things. Maybe it's their way to show you that they want to be your friend? But if you're not comfortable, just go up to them and tell them that you don't like them copying everything you do and that it irritates you, and you'd like them to stop.

Wow, you really have a big fan.
Anyways, here's the solution, ........start to make comments to other collegues about your "carbon copy". Start calling her your "carbon copy" and hopefully it will hurt her enough for her to stop doing it.

a smart response is what he/she is looking for and will only encourage them. Ignore them. thats the fastest way to make them mad. Don't play the game.

Don't do anything. Just feel sorry for that person because they obviously have no self esteem if he's trying to be just like you or someone else.
