If the US is allowed to murder people with out transparancy, how will the rest of the world forgive us? " Graham said CIA Director Michael Hayden told Republican senators this week that the CIA interrogation program would fail unless Congress passed Bush's plan — an assertion Graham said was "over the line."

The White House legislation would cause a "ripple effect of monumental proportions" because it would invite other nations to revise their interpretation of the Geneva Convention standards, said Graham, R-S.C.

We'd never know the truth. That's the thing about tyrannical police states. The people are kept in ignorance.

Just imagine what things will be like when the GOP can spy at will on any American without a warrant? Think they won't use that to spy on Democrats, anti-Bush/anti-GOP groups and organizations, or anyone criticizing the president?

It's truly a terrible state of affairs that the GOP, which wraps itself in the flag, cannot see the greater moral problem of legalizing torture, warrantless spying on citizens by the government, and starting pre-emptive wars without cause and not being held responsible for it.

They've claimed to be the more moral party, but look at what they do and what kind of legislation they want to pass. Can anyone honestly say they have a shred of morality.

What I can't figure out is why more Americans can't see through this party's bullsh!t.

In a trial there is a chance that the accused will be set free. Would you want a terrorist getting off on a technicality, then going back to their leaders with the knowledge of how we are hunting them?

We won't. It would give the President the KGB-like power to label anyone a terrorist and take them away.

There is NOTHING in the Constitution that would allow that because the Founding Fathers were terrified a President could amass that kind of power.

... It is a fact.. if these trials go ahead the way Bush wants it, the American public will never really know what the whole truth is. We don't even know if he even has the right people.
..... We are a country of laws.. one of them being the right to be judged fairly.. how can we go to another country and try to change them to our ways, when we do not even follow our own laws.
.......Bush now wants to make this a law so it will be one less he is breaking. he makes me ashamed!

It is not the public's job to "know" anything. Some things have to be kept secret for security reason.

Bush is basically trying to repeal the 6th Amendment, but without actually bothering with the procedure for a constitutional amendment.

It is none of our business what the government does. By asking these kinds of questions you are helping the terrorists.
