get appollo dvd copy or dvd shrink
U need one of these kind of programs to remove copyright protection and to shrink it down to a size that will fit on a dvd-r.
I prefer apollo dvd because it has good options and it is simple to use. Nero wont remove the copyright protect but it can shrink it down if there is no copyright protect.

DVD Shrink v3.2.0.15
DVD Shrink is a versatile freeware tool for fitting a DVD-Video disc on a single DVDR disc. DVD Shrink is capable of both re-authoring and re-encoding the movie. It features an intuitive user interface which makes it easy to choose what to keep, and what to lose. DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning
If used with nero will shrink dvd and then auto burn the dvd with Nero
you can down load both at http://www.afterdawn.com

You're going to need something like DVD Shrink. (it's free, google it).. It will rip the video to your HDD, and then use normal burning software (like nero), or whatever you use to write to the disc.

It's probably not the most user-friendly, but it's well-known in the dvd-burning community.. One of the best...
