Hebrews 11:8-16 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. 13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. 14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. 15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
By faith Abraham was looking forward to Jesus coming and establishing the Kingdom of Heaven. While it didn't come about this time around, not only because the Jews rejected Jesus, but also because the Scriptures foretold that Jesus would die to pay for our sins the Kingdom of Christ will come in the future.
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

My bible has John 8:56 saying (this is Jesus speaking to the Pharisees) "your forefather Abraham was extremely happy at the hope and prospect of seeing my day...and did see it and was delighted" This is saying that Abraham was looking forward to the appearing of the Messiah. Of course, the Old Testament faithful did not live to see Jesus. It was by faith that they believed, and my bible references Hebrews 11:13, confirming that Abraham looked forward and had faith in the Messiah.

This passage from the Gospel of John, the last gospel, exemplifies what some scholars have identified as evidence of a growing hostility towards Judaism that emerges as Christianity separates itself from its parent religion. When some of his Jewish followers question whether Jesus is claiming to be greater than Abraham, he says that they are children of the devil.
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced that he was to see my day; he saw it and was glad." 57 The Jews then said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" 58 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." 59 So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.
Christians believe that John 8:58 proves that Jesus is God because he claimed to have existed before Abraham. However, the Bible says that both Solomon (Proverbs 8:22) and Jeremiah (Jeremiah 1:5) existed before their human births. Doesn’t this show that they are God also? Besides, Jesus didn’t say he existed before Adam, only before Abraham, and even angels existed before both Adam and Abraham.

For one thing, at the Oaks of Mamre, when he welcomed three men into his tent and gave them hospitality. One of the men he called "Lord". This was one of the Old Testament "theophanies" (revelations of God) of the Lord Jesus Christ, even before His incarnation. As God, he appeared to Abraham as a man, even before he was actually born as a man in Bethlehem more than a thousand years later. The other two "men" Abraham saw were angels of God, attending on the Lord. It is they who were sent off to destroy Sodom and Gemorrah, while the Lord stayed behind and spoke with Abraham, as with a friend.
This is just one of many Old Testament theophanies of Jesus Christ, Son of God and God, Second Person of the Holy Trinity. But in it, you can see how Abraham "saw (His) day and rejoiced."
